Sandi has had a whirlwind of a year. This performance is more unbelievable than many of you will ever understand

Sandi works full time, studied 7 days a week, exams, projects and other life stuff that I won't share

People don't know Sandi sleeps in or around 4 hours most nights, eats around 1300 calories most days yet trains harder than almost anyone I've worked with

Stress was at an all time high going into Euros and we had already accepted in advance that that comp was going to come in a few % short of ideal numbers for that reason

College finished just in time before Masters Nationals this month for Sandis body to start responding and I pushed her along to use the improved recovery abilities

Sandi doesn't complain if I throw loads of volume and intensity at her every session, she only complains when I don't give her enough

I was so confident in this performance ahead of time because I could see it in her training

M1+M2 u57kg squat records
M2 u57kg bench record
M1+M2 u57kg deadlift records
M1+M2 u57kg total records

M2 u57kg unofficial deadlift world record @ 183kg
This needs to be done on an international platform to be recognized

Sandi had to skip one session a week a few times during exams and high demanding working weeks which she absolutely hates, but this shows what can be achieved despite things not being "optimal or perfect"

Many want what Sandi achieves, but they don't want to do the amount of work and sacrifices that come with it.

Sandi is getting older and stronger, so that's your excuse of your age being the factor in your lack of progression, especially if you're not monitoring food, training hard and sleeping well or what's required for you, the individual

I have a growing team of masters and opens, all progressing regardless of age and circumstances

Coach the person not the problem

Understanding how the hand width and touch point affect the bench efficiency is crucial and should be pretty basic for any coach teaching it

Yes, there are some other variables like limb length and shoulder width, etc

Get this right from the start, and you can get stronger at it

Like always, if you and your coach can't get this right, drop me a DM and I will

For all pain, performance and coaching enquiries, drop me a DM or book your free call in my bio to discuss how I'll get you performing at your best by @tjpainfree

You may not need to be able to perform something to teach it, but you do need to understand the workings of it

I'm still shocked at how many "high level" coaches and physios don't understand the basics of the movement they're trying to improve or treat

I see it in their clients training stories, how inefficient their movements are and could be fixed by such a small or simple change that they're either ignoring, or can't see

I don't do cold DMs and if you're not my client I'm not jumping in to offer free advice when you're paying someone to make you stronger and better at your sport

And no, I don't have a course to sell you on this

Do what I did and spend your money on furthering your education to improve your ability to help your clients

Charging to teach something you don't understand is the equivalent of fraud really

Do better

Athletes, if you need someone to assess your movements that knows what they're doing and does it daily for a living with proof everywhere, just drop me a DM and I'll get you lifting more with less effort by @tjpainfree

Pain is information, use it, don't fear it.

It's natural to be concerned about pain when we feel it and if course the higher it is out of 10, can create even more panic and fear than a low level pain

Once we remember that FEWER pain experiences are actually the result of a pathology

So in other words most of your pain felt isn't trauma or damaged tissue

We know that pain ≠ damage and damage ≠ pain

So how is this helpful?

We use the pain you're experiencing as information to resolve it.

For example:

How long have you had the pain?

What action triggers your pain? Hinging/Flexion/Extension

What type of pain is it? Sharp/dull/ache

Does it linger when triggered or is it short and sharp?

Is the pain level load dependent? More load equals higher pain etc

What have you tried so far to relieve it?(If anything)

Did this have any impact at all?

The more you take notice of the answers to the questions above, the more chance you have of solving it more quickly.

I take all that thinking and stress out of your hand with my rehab service.

4 weeks of guiding you through the steps to measure and monitor the above data while giving you a plan to introduce movements to target this pain

We check in each week and use the data to adjust the program, if needed, for the following week.

If you want more info on how I do this, book a free consultation call in my bio by @tjpainfree

Most people are terrified of pain, and because they're terrified, they stop doing the thing that hurts

And as I preach all the time, I believe that's a stupid approach

So here's a scenario for you

You feel a little bit of pain in your knee when you squat, or a little bit of shoulder pain when you press

And you, or your brain, are thinking: if I keep going with this, something's going to tear, something's going to rip, something's going to detach

I'm going to make it worse

I should just stop, right?

That's what happens

But the truth is that low-level pain or discomfort, the kind you can work through

It doesn't go "oh shit, that hurts," but it's there, it's the background, you feel it, but you can still train, that'll hardly ever cause more damage

Your body's not made of cotton wool

It adapts

Pain is information

It tells you where you are today, not where you're going to be forever

You don't need to be pain-free to train

You just need to be smart about it

There's always ways to modify, regress, adapt, or work around it while still progressing

The only thing that'll guarantee that you'll regress and get weaker is doing nothing

If the fear of pain and injury is holding you back and stealing that love and enjoyment of your training.

You're sick and tired of sitting around feeling sorry for yourself, feeding your emotions, then lucky for you, I help people get back to doing the thing they love, and sometimes I even fix the unfixable.

So drop me a DM and let me help you overcome that fear, get out of that couch slump and back to doing what you love and what makes you feel alive! by @tjpainfree

Nobody has ever watched you perform the movement that hurts?

You've paid for assessments done lying down on a bed for pain that happens bench pressing under load?

Try this instead: 90 minutes, live on Zoom, you lifting, me assessing and treating in real time

"I can feel a knot right here, I'll just break that up for you"

Heard that before?

Here's the issue with this.....

They can't

Not with needles

Not with cups

Not with their elbow digging into your ass cheek like they're trying to knead dough

Massage, cupping, and dry needling do NOT break up adhesions, knots, or scar tissue

The research is clear on this

The physiological mechanism that people claim "we're mechanically breaking down fibrotic tissue" doesn't exist at the forces applied in a treatment session

What actually happens is temporary neurophysiological modulation

Simply put, your brain stops perceiving the tightness for a while

The tissue is the same

Now before anyone gets their padel kickers in a knot...

If you enjoy massage

If cupping makes you feel better

If you've got the disposable income and it's part of your self-care routine, work away

I get massages once every 9 - 12 months

No issue with that

The problem is when practitioners sell these as solutions for chronic tightness, charge premium rates, and never address the actual cause, like load management, nervous system threat perception, recovery, sleep, nutrition

You're trying to treat symptoms and not solve the actual problem

And if you're a practitioner promoting this, you're either operating on outdated information someone taught you(not entirely your own fault), or you know better and you're choosing not to say it because the repeat bookings pay for your hyrox classes

Both are a problem

Pain is information

Tightness is your nervous system reacting to a problem

Listen to it and find the problem

I help people get rid of constant tightness through coaching that addresses every variable, not just the spot that hurts

If you're tired of chasing temporary relief from chronic, tiring and painful tightness, drop me a DM and let's have a conversation. by @tjpainfree

Soft therapists and coaches create soft clients

There are a million different ways to train

For every one exercise you can't do due to pain or injury there are a hundred others you likely can do

I mean if you're looking for an excuse to take the easy and often lazy way out then by all means sit on your poop shoot and groom your pipes

But if you want to build resilience, develop self efficacy and get out of pain, then you'll have to do some work, there's no magic pill

The choice is yours, you can take the advice of your GP(general practitioner) that has never seen the inside of a gym or taken part in any sport at all or you can get a second opinion by people that actually deal with these cases all the time and have proof of outcomes

One option is easy and requires you to do sweet feck all and likely get into a slumber of feeling sorry for yourself, over eating and getting deconditioned while chewing different pain tablets daily

The other option requires effort and consistency but with the ability to maintain a level of fitness, strength and overall healthy levels of activity while reducing pain

Which one do you think has the more favourable outcome?

I can guide you through the active route and teach you how your pain is information and isn't to get feared.

I'll teach you you're more resilient than you thought

How could I possibly understand how you feel?

Maybe the two spinal compression fractures I have in my spine, without back pain and deadlifting over 280kg

I'm only a free call away to get you on that road to pain free progression by @tjpainfree

Having too many separate people treating and advising on the same problem, is a recipe for a negative outcome or prolonged recovery

I appreciate that it doesn't matter the method, once the same solution is met

But different methods applied to the same problem generally don't end positively

You don't try to boil, roast and steam your potatoes at the same time, I mean wtf would you get as an end product?

Stick with one professional or one method until you feel it has run it's course and you need to try a different approach, a very rare occurrence with my clients, thankfully

If you're tired of being passed from pillar to post without gaining any forward traction, not gaining any weight on the bar, any increase in run times etc

I've got the solution to get your trajectory heading in the right direction and get you back to progressing and doing that thing you love by @tjpainfree

Meg decided she wanted to cut down some bodyweight as she was feeling uncomfortable in herself and her clothes.

She had the number 57kg in her head as she recalled feeling good walking around at that weight

She's lost 8.4kg and lowest weight has just hit 57.1kg

Meg is another client that just executes the plan with a tolerable amount of whinging

She was given a daily macro limit and didn't often hit it as she was actually not hungry and I don't encourage force feeding for gen pop or in a deficit

She averaged 12800 steps a day without it being an obsession or lifestyle change

She trained 3 days a week for 90% of this time but recently increased it to 4 days a week due to a reduction in travel time to work because of a change in location

Meg is now off to Brazil for a 4 week holiday and a diet break but with some guidelines in place to prevent any major negative outcomes

Her training plan will be 2 to 3 sessions and based on having a pair 10kg dumbbells only

On her return we'll likely continue the cut some more before looking at a decent length gaining phase

Meg is someone that needs a plan to keep her confident that everything is looked after and will get her where she needs to be without worry by @tjpainfree

I don't normally like most cues as they're pointless because the load position will dictate the movement not the cue

Example "knees out" or "chest up" these are dictated by load position as the load will dictate what tissue is contracting, you won't overcome load position with any cue

But this one will get you in the right position before loading position takes over by @tjpainfree

I have no idea why I look like I massaged my face with an iron

Everyone's body adapts at different rates

They adapt to different levels of volume, intensity and frequency

It's not a one size fits all, even if two people get the same movement plan, their reps, sets and load will likely be different

Can Mary who trains once a week in Curves and sits on her backside the other 6 days a week tolerate the same as Claire, the psychopath that enjoys being a Hybrid Rockstar 4 days a week?

Probably not

I see this all the time when people come to me after being to someone else, which is almost every client

They've been given some sort of cobra pose, pigeon stretch etc when their pain isn't an issue until they use a certain load which far exceeds any of the stimulus they've been given, and often it's not even a stimulus at all

Output is the reaction to the input

I've worked with more people than I can probably count, desperate athletes to crying mothers in pain

I've first hand experience in rehab on my own body

I've set out small goals with a likelihood of needing less time to achieve, but adding to my long term big goal

Drop me DM so that I can set out your rehab plan, look after your weekly progress and show you the wins that add up towards that pain free end goal by @tjpainfree
