A little thank you to one of Scarborough’s gems. 💚

I recently visited @specsaversca for an eye exam and had such an incredible experience with Omer and Dr. Poonam Lakhani. They are genuinely some of the kindest humans and Dr. Lakhani taught me more about my eyes in one appointment than I’ve learned in my entire life.

Did you know there can be signs in your eyes that indicate whether you may be at risk for certain illnesses?

Because I didn’t.

An eye exam may not sound like the most exciting outing, but feeling cared for, informed and completely comfortable made the experience something worth talking about.

That’s the thing about great local businesses: marketing may help someone discover you, but it’s the experience you create that makes them want to tell others.

Thank you, Omer, Dr. Lakhani and the entire Specsavers team, for taking such wonderful care of me. Scarborough is lucky to have you. 💜

12 days. 4 theme parks. 3 hotels. 20,000+ km flown.
4 Shinkansen trains. Too many JR and local trains to count. 1 taxi (cuz we got off at the wrong train station). 6 bus rides. 20k steps per day. One five-year-old who somehow still had energy and barely complained.

Legoland Japan was a hit

so much so that he was crying about it the second night we were home that he wanted to go back and then this morning, on my way to drop him off at his granny’s house, he asked if he could go back to Legoland 🤣

The main reasons we loved it:
1. Lego. Nuff said.
2. Wait times were 10-20 minutes max. Perfect for little kids
3. There was so much more to do than just rides
5. The hotel was absolutely amazing. He got 6 lego mini sets during our stay and the Brick Restaurant had a great buffet breakfast 😋

Thank you Legoland

This trip was largely for him, so it’s very satisfying that he had such a lovely time. I can’t wait to bring him back to Japan. We’ll probably go to Legoland again but I’m also keen to explore more nature next time. Mount Fuji anyone? by @tk_homemade

My childhood self is still jumping for joy over this experience. 🍄🎮

My bro, sis and I played a LOT of Nintendo growing up. I was never particularly good at it 😂, but walking into Super Nintendo World and actually being inside that world felt unreal.

Universal did such a good job with it. The entire land is gamified, there are things moving everywhere you look, and Yoshi’s Adventure was so perfectly Yoshi that I was grinning the whole time.

And Donkey Kong Country?! We LOVED the Mine-Cart Madness coaster.

A few tips for future travellers:
🍄 Get the Power-Up Band. Yes, it’s an extra cost, but it turns the land into an actual game. You can collect coins, hit blocks, complete challenges and track your score. It made the experience so much more fun.

🎟️ Make sure you plan for this. You have to pre book Super Nintendo World entry times. You don’t necessarily have free access to come and go all day.

🌡️ If you’re visiting Japan in the summer, prepare for HEAT. It was incredibly hot and humid. Water, fans, cooling towels and breaks in the shade are your friends. And gift shops are great for a cool down. Just don’t bring a 5 year old who expects a souvenir in every shop 🤭

🎢 And absolutely do Mine-Cart Madness if you can - it was full of surprises. Such a fun coaster for the whole fam.

It was hot. We were sweaty. We were exhausted.

And somehow none of us cared because WE WERE IN NINTENDO. 🍄⭐️🎮 taken in Universal Studio Japan スパイダーマン by @tk_homemade

Have you ever seen a fairy penguin before?

I have after visiting sea life park in Japan!

This was the scariest thing but also kind of amazing?

Dylan and I woke up to this alarm and felt our building sway back and forth - bending like rubber.

Like it was supposed to- we quickly learned. But it was so scary.

It was a 5.9 earthquake and 70km deep. Unreal. The Epicenter not too far from us. We felt it even more than most being higher up. Quite the experience.

Benny, somehow, did not wake up. Dylan covered his head and after about a minute, everything was quiet.
The building stopped swaying.

And the strangest part…
No one freaked out. Nobody exited the building. No damage. No injuries. Japan was built for this…

Something I will never forget. And somehow I went right back to sleep after. Maybe I felt the calm of the locals who experience this more often. taken in Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay, Tokyo, Japan by @tk_homemade

A quick pop in to Saint John, NB with @spotdottt

📍Sea caves in St. Martins complete with 2 lobster rolls - both delicious 😋

📍Reversing Falls

📍Irving Nature Park where I decided to climb some seaside rocks in a dress.

📍Uptown Saint John for dinner @gahan.portcity

📍A 6 hour airplane delay had us back uptown at @area506fest for donair and shopping 😋

And of course, the main reason we were there was for my cousins baby shower 💖
