NEW IN: Where do we all belong?

Where do we all belong? is a socially engaged visual art project exploring loneliness in rural Co. Sligo. This publication documents the project and contains, artworks, participant voices, photographs and texts.

The project responds to a pressing social issue. In 2023, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre found that Ireland has the highest levels of loneliness in Europe, with over 20% of respondents feeling lonely most or all of the time, compared with an EU average of 13%.

Working across Sligo, the project followed a process of research, development and exhibition, engaging communities in the making of the work so that a wide range of voices shaped the outcomes. Through conversation and anonymous surveys, people were invited to reflect on their experiences and thoughts on loneliness. Where do we all belong? aims to inspire meaningful connections and promote social inclusion

NEW IN: Counter Punch, Ophelia Wynne

Boxing has always been more than a fight. It’s movement, a rhythm, and a place to belong. It’s a discipline that gives shape to chaos, offering focus where there might otherwise be none. This work began in small, grassroots gyms – spaces alive with energy, where young people find purpose through repetition and sweat. The thud of gloves, the breath between rounds, the hum of friendship and rivalry. It’s here that boys and girls, young men and women, begin to find their footing. For many of the young boxers I’ve met, the gym is a lifeline – a way off the streets, out of harm’s way, and into a world of structure and self-respect. It replaces uncertainty with discipline, and isolation with belonging.

NEW IN: Ana Mendieta exhibition book

Experience the trailblazing work of Ana Mendieta, an artist whose vision changed the course of contemporary art, in this groundbreaking and essential new publication.

Active between 1972 and 1985, Ana Mendieta was a highly influential feminist artist who created groundbreaking work across photography, film, earth work, drawing, installation and performance.
Widely celebrated for her Silueta series, which outlines the artist’s own body in the landscape using earth, fire, water, flowers and other materials, Mendieta documented such ephemeral, temporary works using still photography and film. This monograph, published to accompany the first major exhibition of Mendieta’s work in the UK in over a decade, showcases such works across over 200 expertly reproduced images.

Essays by contributors such as Chuz Martinez, Ida Panicelli and Maria Elena Ortiz delve deeper into individual artworks, including rare paintings from the beginning of Mendieta’s career (De Pelicula, 1969), ephemeral sculptures (Sandwoman series), and the seminal Atabey (Mother of the Waters) made in the early 1980s, which saw the artist working alongside the soft limestone walls of caves outside Havana.

NEW IN: Noema Magazine, Issue 7

‘Exploring the transformations sweeping our world’

Noema is published by THE BERGGRUEN INSTITUTE, ‘established in 2010 to develop foundational ideas about how to reshape political and social institutions in the face of these great transformations.’ In ancient Greek, noema means ‘thinking’ or the ‘object of thought.’

The Next Axial Age asks whether humanity is entering a period of transformation comparable to the original Axial Age, when many of the world’s major philosophical, ethical and religious traditions emerged more than two millennia ago. Today, artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, genetic engineering and the climate crisis are once again forcing fundamental questions about human purpose, consciousness, nature and our place in the world.

Across the issue, competing perspectives examine whether new technologies can expand human awareness and reconnect us with planetary systems — or instead flatten knowledge into an increasingly uniform computational worldview. Contributions move between AI, consciousness, ecology, spirituality and complexity, asking what kind of shared ethical framework might emerge from a period of profound technological and environmental change.

NEW TLP EDITION: Walls of Containment, David Killeen

This series documents twenty-one psychiatric hospitals constructed between 1814 and 1939 representing one of the largest public programs ever undertaken in Ireland.

Lauded as the first statutory national system of its type, these institutions (asylums) were founded on the ideal that a combination of kindness, moral guidance and innovative architecture could cure insanity. However, the practical challenges in accommodating the ever complex needs of vast amount of patients overrode the clinical capabilities and services of each institution.

By the 1950s, Ireland gained the dubious distinction of accommodating the world’s highest number of psychiatric patients per capita. With the advent of the pharmacological revolution and shifting government policy, the number of psychiatric patients dropped significantly from 20,000 to almost none. Now vacant, the future of these once crucial but now challenging buildings remains very uncertain.

NEW TLP EDITION: The Feather Assembly, Matthew Gammon

The Feather Assembly celebrates the overlooked beauty of members of the crow family, highlighting the need to appreciate common wildlife amid significant population declines. Through intimate polymer photogravure prints, the project explores the dichotomy of how we view these birds as both ordinary, mundane creatures, and also as mystical beings.

This intaglio printmaking technique transfers digital or film negatives onto light-sensitive polymer plates. When inked and pressed onto textured etching paper, it creates rich, velvety blacks and dramatic tonal depths. The resulting prints highlight the stark silhouettes, detailed plumage, and haunting presence of the birds, turning ordinary urban wildlife into ethereal, timeless portraits which invite viewers to find wonder in our everyday wildlife neighbours.

NEW TLP EDITION: Silent Garden, Glenn Keelan

Midsummer 6:15am, not a soul awake except the birds, my daughter and partner, sleeping soundly, as the sun rises up over the mountain, kissing the tips of the flowers. Morning coffee in hand, I potter around the garden as it silently sleeps.

NEW IN: Breathing Land, Hazel Gaskin

In Breathing Land, Hazel Gaskin traces the lives of young people growing up in Belfast in the years following renewed unrest in 2021. Returning to the city over several years, Gaskin looks beyond the familiar narratives of conflict to consider how history, geography, and identity continue to shape everyday life.

Photographed between 2021 and 2025, the work follows teenagers as they move through spaces marked by peace walls, murals, and defensive architecture, while also forging their own rituals, friendships, and futures. Engaging with dance groups, boxing gyms, and youth communities, Gaskin focuses on adolescence as a moment of transition, when questions of belonging and possibility come sharply into view.

Rather than offering a fixed portrait of division, Breathing Land captures a city in motion. Traces of the past sit alongside signs of change, where inherited symbols are reinterpreted and quietly reshaped by a generation growing up after the conflict. The work presents Belfast not as a static place of division, but as a living, breathing environment, defined by resilience, complexity, and the ways young people learn to navigate it.
