It is with a heavy heart, happy knees and a content brain that I would like to announce my retirement from basketball. I am not overstating when I say this game has given me EVERYTHING. It has taught me everything I know, given me the best partner and friends, allowed me to travel the world and given memories to span lifetimes. I will forever be grateful to this game and I will miss playing it so much.

I would like to thank the clubs, coaches, sponsors, owners, general managers and office staff of all the teams I have played for. I always put myself in situations to better myself as a basketballer and a person and I couldn’t have done that without those organisations and people involved in them.

To the fans and volunteers… I am going to miss seeing you every week. Thank you for the support through the good times and the bad. Thank you for inspiring me just as much as I hoped to inspire you. I will definitely still be involved in the basketball community and can’t wait to see you all sometime soon.

To the VIS crew, thank you for keeping me on the court the past couple of years. I will forever be grateful to you for prolonging my career so I was able to achieve everything I wanted. And can now retire content.

Warren, thank you for always setting me up for success by giving me opportunities in teams and places you knew I would be happy, challenged and successful on and off the court! And understanding I always put growth ahead of money!

To my family and closest friends, the professional athlete lifestyle is hard and at times selfish and you are the ones that suffer the most from that. Thank you for always supporting me, believing in me and loving me even if I don’t return your phone calls for months on end. I’m very lucky to have been able to share this journey with you and I promise I’ll make up for it.

We are athletes. We are coaches. We are administrators. We are officials. We are commentators. We compete. We sweat. We lead. We win. We lose. We show emotion. We show strength. And young girls deserve to see all of it.

There are so many incredible stories to tell about women in sport.

Let’s tell those. by @tmadgey

🇮🇳 Day 1 | Rajnandgaon, India 🇦🇺

What an unforgettable start to our journey.
From an incredible welcome ceremony to our first evening clinic, it was amazing to finally meet this talented group of young athletes.

Their passion, energy and excitement for the game were inspiring to see.

We’re excited to share our knowledge, learn from each other, and build connections that go far beyond the game.

This is only the beginning. 💜🏀

We’re excited to announce @tmadgey as Head Coach of the Champions IGA Women’s team for the upcoming 2026 & 2027 seasons.

Madgen is one of Australia’s most respected basketball figures, bringing an impressive playing career and deep leadership experience to the role. A two-time Olympian (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), Madgen captained the Australian Opals to a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, adding to an already distinguished international career that includes multiple FIBA medals and WNBL championships.

Having previously played for the Bendigo Braves, WNBL Bendigo Spirit, and represented Bendigo at various stages of her career, Madgen’s appointment marks a homecoming and a new chapter for Bendigo’s buzzing basketball community.

“I’m genuinely excited for the opportunity to lead the Bendigo Braves NBL1 Women’s team. Having played for Bendigo and now stepping into the Head Coaching role feels like a full-circle moment.

This role goes well beyond one team or one season. I am incredibly passionate about creating pathways for women in sport, particularly basketball, and I want to ensure that girls and young women in Bendigo
see a clear, achievable future in the game.

My vision is to see local development for players, from grassroots through to juniors, into NBL1 with the Bendigo Braves, and then on to the WNBL with the Bendigo Spirit - the opportunities for females in Bendigo are astounding for a regional city. That connection is the legacy I want to build.”
