“Raw perspective “ at @plus359gallery
On go in until 28.02.2025
Thursday /Friday /Saturday from 14:00-19:00

The sculptures, installations, and multimedia pieces in this exhibition explore the human condition as a continuous climb and fall, a struggle to reconcile fleeting beauty with existential absurdity.

Raw Perspectives questions the essence of art in an age where the line between creation and consumption blurs. Is art a mirror, reflecting our fears and longings? Or is it an escape ,a trifle cake to distract from the weight of existence? The artist’s works invite us to wrestle with these questions through materials that shine and rust, evoke trust and suspicion, and challenge us to see the poetry in their contradictions.

Tnx Lobster Boys @0.1134_robin & @todorrab for a great show in our gallery space which was reconfigured into a stunning art fair presentation last week @nap.plus

“Lobster and shrimp on my plate, I need my pockets so fat they inflate” is a collaborative project by artists Robin Phoenix Whitehouse (UK) and Todor Rabadzhiyski (BG) that started in 2021 and delves into the culture and changing economy associated with lobsters.

In the fourth showcase (Vol. 4: Back of the Kitchen) of the project - for which the artists collaborated with Dürst Britt & Mayhew - the artists look specifically at the moment the lobster enters the restaurant kitchen, tracing the transformation of a sea creature into a symbol of status and celebration.

We are happy to welcome Dürst Britt & Mayhew to NAP+ 2026, presenting works by Robin Phoenix Whitehouse and Todor Rabadzhiyski. Their ongoing collaborative project Lobster and shrimp on my plate, I need my pockets so fat they inflate traces the shifting culture and economy surrounding the lobster — from food for the poor to a symbol of luxury and status. Drawing from their own experiences working in a seafood restaurant, the artists explore labour, value, consumption, and transformation through painting, sculpture, video, and installation.

LEVIATHAN I - LEMNOS

Leviathan I grew out of “Raw Perspective” exhibition of mine in 2024 in @plus359gallery , carrying the memory of an industrial vessel into the landscape of Lemnos, where the sculpture began to acquire another body.

The work enters the myth of Hephaestus, the god of fire, metal and the forge, who, cast from Olympus, is bound to the island through exile and making. Rather than illustrating the myth, Leviathan approaches it through matter. The wounded industrial structure becomes a vessel caught between destruction and construction, between the force that breaks a body and the labour that gives it another form.
On Lemnos, the transformation was no longer controlled by my self . Placed within the Natura 2000 environment, the 7-metre metal sculpture was left to encounter the island - its air, moisture, salt, vegetation and changing light. The metal began to oxidise, and the surface slowly moved from silver to rust, from manufactured material towards something increasingly geological.

At sunset, the sculpture changes again. The remaining silver metal catches the last light, while the rust intensifies into deep oranges and reds. For a brief moment, the sculpture seems to take its colour from the island itself. Its surface becomes unstable, changing with every evening, never quite the same object twice.
This is where the myth of Hephaestus becomes material rather than symbolic. The forge is not only a place where metal is transformed by fire; Lemnos itself becomes a kind of forge, acting slowly through exposure, weather and time. The sculpture allows the landscape to enter its body.

The industrial vessel, the myth of Hephaestus, the rust, the silver reflections and the protected landscape become parts of the same ongoing transformation - a body displaced from its original function, carrying its history while continuously becoming something else.
