Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Maria Jackson @mariawiththevoice is an alternative R&B and soul singer based in Bend, Oregon. Her first public performance came after a friend signed her up for karaoke without telling her. She was so nervous, she sang TLC’s “No Scrubs” from underneath the table.

Today, she performs with musicians across Bend at wine bars, breweries, and events. She also sings at local benefits, giving back to the community that encouraged her to keep performing.

For bookings, please contact Maria at mariatheeband@gmail.com

Nash Ranch has been a gathering place for generations of Redding families. Louis D. Nash began buying the land in 1953, and in the early ’90s, his son Bob planted a small plot of pumpkins and set a new family tradition in motion.

Today, his grandson, also Louis D. Nash, helps carry that tradition forward. For visitors, the ranch is a place to pick pumpkins, explore the corn maze, and make memories with their families. For Louis, it’s also a way to bring people together and give back to the community that has supported his family’s farm for decades.

“Community built this place,” he says. “All I do is drive a tractor.”

I turn 39 today, and I’m launching a new project; one that is very personal to me.

This is my first birthday without my dad, and I want to put my unexpressed grief and love somewhere creative. Since he gave me my first camera, 25 years ago, it inspired a big idea…

Next month, I am hitting the road to start a new project to interview and photograph fathers and their sons. Each pair will receive one professional and edited portrait together.

I want to hear their stories and learn about the things that bring them together—or have kept them apart. Maybe it’s fishing, running a family business, or hiking together on weekends. Maybe it’s complicated, messy and needs some repair. Whatever their connection looks like, I want to help preserve it.

This will be completely free to participants, but if you want to support the project, you can contribute or become a member of Bloomline! The more memberships sold, the more communities I can travel to, to photograph more families, and preserve more stories. You can support at the link in my bio.

If you’d like to participate, send me a message, tag someone or send this post to someone who should be part of this project.

This is the least year in my 30’s and I want to spend it honoring my dad. ❤️ by @tomcopho

Zachary Darden‘s childhood love of adventure led him into conservation, where he built trails, guided wilderness trips, and worked as a park ranger. He shares how his cowboy hat helped him find confidence, his experiences as a black man in the outdoors, and what it meant to become someone children looked up to.

We are heartbroken, angry and tired of seeing communities endure this kind of tragedy. Our hearts are with Bend and everyone at Silver Rail Elementary.

Children deserve better.

“‘Love at first sight’ is one of the most persistent clichés surrounding new parenthood. It’s depicted repeatedly in popular culture, and alternatives are rarely explored. I presumed this instant love was what I would experience, but my reality was quite different.”

In our first community submission, Sarah Karner writes honestly about postpartum depression, the pressure to feel grateful, and struggling privately while appearing to have everything together.

With The Collective, we’re opening Bloomline to stories told by you, in your own words. Because sharing what we’ve lived through can help someone else feel less alone.

Thank you, Sarah, for sharing yours.
