We’re extremely excited to welcome @tomhocking.1 to the Advance coaching team. Tom will initially come on as an assistant performance coach and work closely with us to develop his experience and knowledge.
Advance Cycle Coaching have been going from strength to strength thanks to all of our clients past and present putting the trust in us over the years, so looking for another coach to come on board was always going to be the natural next step.

After working with Tom as an athlete for a couple of years now, it was an easy decision for me to make when we heard he was interested in becoming a coach himself. Tom has a great focus and drive, and the qualities to be an outstanding coach. He totally fits in to our ethos at Advance and will be a great addition to the coaching team.

His knowledge of exercise physiology and sports science is already at a high level so with a little more guidance and experience I have no doubt he is going to flourish in this new role 👏🏻

Really excited to have been approached by @daocarbonuk to become an ambassador. I have been wanting to get a new wheelset for the Cannondale but have never found the right and most affordable one. That’s when Harry approached me and said that he could help me out. I have looked at their wheelsets in the past and they are not just affordable but strong, light and fast! Which is just what you want in a good set of wheels. I went for the 40mm carbon gravel set however there’s a range of different options and freehub choices to meet your needs!

Went on a short spin with them tonight and they are lush! Go and check them out and cannot wait to race on them at the weekend!

Back between the tapes this weekend after some radio silence and a small break. But jumped on the CX bike to take on the 2nd round of the south west league at Scorrier!

Had an amazing battle with @sam_nancarrow again all the way to the line unfortunately didn’t have the legs to catch him but what a fantastic day organised by @whealvelocity_cc and the Cornwall CX crew. Huge thank you to @sharris.90 for the course design and letting me help plan out parts of the course!

@advance_cycle_coaching rider highlight!

Last weekend marked the start of @biking_libby’s venture into hillclimbs! Taking on the monster that is Haytor hill climb she managed her effort well gaining 12th overall and 1st in her category 🏆🏆

Coming on board at advance coaching a short while ago, not having a power metre at the moment, we are working using threshold heart rate, alternating between longer sub threshold and shorter “severe” domain sessions to help her development for hill climbs in the short period we have before she takes on the national hill climb championships in October. Then we will test towards the winter months working towards next years XCO season!

At the weekend Simon had taken to Old Hill bike park to face the last round of the SWXC series. He managed to bag a 2nd place! This is his 3rd podium in 3 races which obviously isnt the be all and end all, most importantly he has turned up to races, training and gotten on his bike and given it his all! And that’s what counts the most, with his consistent results over the series he managed to bag the overall series title! 🏆

Over the year we’ve worked on his aerobic engine and trying to build up his aerobic ceiling as much as possible, in a largely competitive field you are wanting as much durability against the other riders as you can to keep pushing towards your threshold with the ability to recover quickly and push on again. He has managed each race well, fuelled well and has kept his head together!

Now he is moving over to cyclocross where he will be competing in the @swcx_league this weekend in the first round 💪🏻💪🏻

Last XC race of the season @oldhillbikepark! Absolutely cracking course set up by @whealvelocity_cc with @sharris.90 and crew! Was absolutely loving it pacing with @sam_nancarrow until lap 5 where I had a rear wheel flat so ended up having to settle for 2nd place however managed to secure the overall series win for the SWXC series 🏆

Really enjoyed every race this year and cannot wait for next season with @whealvelocity_cc already! First up a couple cross races to keep the legs active and the winter build starts!!

The @advance_cycle_coaching rider crew was out in force at the latest round of the south west XC series with coached riders Simon and Harry both getting podiums in their respective categories! Simon has now had two podium places in a row which has really boosted his confidence coming into the last round of the series before shifting focus to a solid winter build and mini cyclocross season!

@whealvelocity_cc hosted round 4 of the SWXC series today @gawtongravity. Having never been there before and knowing what the trails are like there I was quite nervous about racing there, bike park jumps, berms and table tops aren’t my forte but thankfully the climbs made up for my lack of skill going downhill managing to get a gap on a rapid descender @_corey13bale_ and take the win in expert!

Really fun course to ride and with a little more practice could be a contender for one of my favourites!
