Very excited to receive Site Development Permit approval at San Jose Planning Director’s hearing this week! Client’s vision is to relocate existing 1890 Victorian (image 3) to front of lot and develop 3 additional dwellings in the rear (2 shown image 2). Goal is to create a ‘village feel’ (Group Form à la Fumihiko Maki) and a home for each of his grandsons!

Thousand Oaks SB9 building coming along nicely! Owners already have a backyard ADU and wanted to add a second dwelling. This 2 bedroom / 2 bath cottage with vaulted living room ceiling and generous kitchen did the trick!

A major part of architecture is understanding and responding to the surrounding environment to create spaces that are both functional and visually compelling. To help students develop a mindset of possibility and creativity, Tom Krulevitch begins with an exercise where students design an abstract box. He then challenges them to transform that abstract concept into a full architectural rendering. Each semester, this project pushes students to think beyond the limits they place on themselves and explore new creative possibilities.

West Valley @wvccilkersoad @designvillage.dwg four entries represented well with The Turtles taking home honorable mention in the creativity / construction category. Students spent 8 weeks designing and prototyping their structures… and then carrying materials a mile into Poly Canyon where they build on the hillside and sleep in their structures for 2 nights. Nothing like ‘Learning by Doing!’

So proud of our @wvccilkersoad Design Village @designvillage.dwg teams ! All four entries represented well with the Turtles taking home honorable mention in the creativity / construction category.
