In 1979, Jim Callery bought the run-down Mahon family estate in Strokestown, County Roscommon, Ireland. Inside he found an 1846 letter from starving tenants pleading the estate for relief (second photo), among so many more historic documents and mementos from that dark chapter in Irish history.

@tommackeyii and I were lucky enough to get a tour from Jim and his daughter Caroilin, and learned what is likely just a bit of the immense amount of history in this space that is now the National Famine Museum in @strokestownpark .
