For Your GRAMMY® Consideration: Best Children's Music Album 🎶

True stories. Big choruses. Tiny singers welcome. 🌍

Little People, BIG DREAMS: The Album is 11 original songs about real-life dreamers who started out as little kids with big ideas, from Frida Kahlo and Neil Armstrong to Malala Yousafzai and Leo Messi. ⚽🚀🎨

We’re so proud it’s been entered for Best Children’s Music Album at the GRAMMY® Awards. Thank you to every brilliant person who sang, played and stayed up late to make it happen, and to the 25-voice children’s chorus, fuelled by 200 biscuits… each! 🍪

I’ve had Dave Milligan’s ShrubRub going round my head since I was a teenager. I think I bought the CD having seen the Dave Milligan trio at a jazz club SOMEWHERE in Scotland in 2003 or something scary like that. I listened to it endlessly. It folded Scottish trad sounds in with jazz in a way that felt fresh and homely at the same time.

Now, writing Highlanders, and looking for own sound of Scotland in a show, I’m reaching back into the memory banks to see if i can resurface some of those melodies. Seems like I’ve lost some BPM and the fingering.

Playing with @thedixieticklers over the last 15 years has been one of the best musical adventures of my life. Rooting through the compositions from the very genesis of Jazz in New Orleans, learning whole orchestrations together by ear, and taking what we learnt out into the world was an education not just in jazz, but music wholly.

10 years back we were on the deck of the Golden Hinde as part of the Jazz Nursery takeover. On hot nights we’d leave the cabins and cannons and let Jelly Roll Morton roll out over the Thames. These images capture some of the magic.

Write Your Dreams - A Song About Jane Austen is out now! It’s our latest track from the Little People Big Dreams Album. It’s the most epic of them all, and went straight onto the @spotify New Kids Music playlist ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Each story from @mariaisabelsanchezvegara and @quartokids has been an adventure to turn into song.

For this one we had some legendary folks make the journey possible:

The soaring talent of @gracemouat 🎤. Jane Austen has truly found her voice!

Those are @12ensemble 🎻 you’re hearing.
Glorious 🎺from @horn.house brass
And the incredible @johnbleasedrums on 🥁.

It’s been 10 years since I put out my first recording, the Summer EP. I want to give it some air, open its shutters and let the cool wind in now that Summers are hotter than ever.

The artwork by @racheantonio_illustration evokes the fertile but consuming creative act, a bursting forth of new shoots. I am older now and the fertility of creation takes a more regular but no more mysterious form in musical theatre.

Another day another bagpipe line from Highlanders. It’s a new Scottish musical that I’m figuring out. Part of that is discovering and writing a language of Melodie’s for pentatonic folk instruments like the bagpipes, typical of Celtic music. With a limited range, and limited key centres, it’s a challenge especially in a form where keys are changed to fit the voice of the performer.
