Sunday Shakeout Runday Thoughts:

I just want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the incredible group behind @civitasmarathonrelay and everyone who participated.

It’s amazing to think that what started as a single, rushed idea last year has grown into what we experienced this year. Watching the event grow, seeing people come together, and witnessing the impact along the way has been nothing short of incredible.

I’m truly grateful for everyone who believed in the idea, gave their time, showed up, supported the cause, and helped make Civitas what it is becoming.

Looking back at the 2019 version of me pushing 300 pounds, I would’ve laughed if you told me that by 2026 I’d drive to Charlotte to run five miles alongside someone who inspired my own running journey.

But here we are.

Today, I had the privilege of meeting and running with Andy Glaze during one of his Pop-Up Runs. With so many people there, I didn’t get much time to talk with him, but seeing the crowd made one thing clear: his impact reaches far beyond the miles.

Five miles once seemed impossible. Running wasn’t part of the plan. Now, I’m chasing miles, growth, and opportunities I never imagined.

Funny how far you can go when you just keep showing up.

I think back to 2019-ish—before all the changes I’ve experienced and made pushing 300lbs—and I can’t help but laugh.

If you had told that version of me I’d fast-forward to 2026, drive to Charlotte, and run five miles just to meet and run alongside an ultra-runner who had inspired my own journey, I would’ve laughed you right out the door.

And yet, here we are.

This afternoon, I had the privilege of meeting and running with Andy Glaze during one of his Pop-Up Runs as he traveled the East Coast toward his next adventure.

There were SO many people there that I didn’t get much time to talk with him. Everyone wanted their moment with Andy—and honestly, that says everything about the impact he’s had on so many people.

I hope he truly understands how far his influence reaches.

Andy is a huge personality in the ultra-running community and online, so it was pretty dang cool to run shoulder to shoulder with him and feel like it was just another run with the boys.

That’s something special.

Every now and then, you look back at where you started and realize how far you’ve come. Five miles once sounded impossible. Running was never part of the plan. Now I’m chasing miles, chasing growth, and getting the chance to run alongside people who helped inspire the journey in the first place.

Life is funny like that.

Keep inspiring. Keep motivating. Keep doing what you do, Andy Glaze.

I look back at that person and think, That was me. Same person. Different mindset. Different outlook. Different life.

There is hope. Your mind is more powerful than you realize. Once you truly decide to change, commit, and refuse to quit, everything starts to change.

Set your mind. Hold the line. Trust the process. Enjoy the ride.

Real talk! Of all the facial hair phases I’ve gone through, from beard to goatee to now the stache, I’ve never gotten as many compliments as I have with this thing.

At this rate, I might have to let the stache hang around under the nose for a while and give the chin some time to breathe.

Yr 5 (and a day) weight loss journey anniversary. 7/12/21 - I reflect back occasionally and think wow I never knew how bad I looked and felt. Looking forward it’s all about maintaining. Hard work and discipline. There is no wonder drug or script for this guy and I’m proud of that it’s sweat equity and discipline of what goes in my mouth. The true appreciation I have for all those that have supported me, 1st and foremost my wife @jaimeodom, along with the accountability, push and motivation I received from my @f3rockhill brothers I’ll never be able to repay in my lifetime. This isn’t a pat on my back post, this is a you’ve got this, you can do this post. Find the circle, find the motivation, find the push to do better and be better then set your mind to it and take off.
