From its origins in a small town in northern Italy to Berlin, before branching out through Europe and beyond, Riccardo Biondetti has built @swampbooking into an important force in the musical underground.

The name might be unfamiliar to you, but if you're a fan of alternative (I hate this term, but what can you do?) music, their roster of over 300 acts is pretty remarkable.

Having explored touring from the musician's perspective with @conanneutron in my first feature for @newnoisemagazine , this time round I had the opportunity to find out about the realities of touring from the side of a DIY booking agency.

Three years ago living in Düsseldorf I had a moment of existential horror. I've just turned 40 and I'm wasting my life daydreaming about creative projects that I'm going to bring to fruition sometime in the future.

The future was passing. So I called up my friend and former bandmate Neil McKeown and said, I want to make a solo album, will you help to record and mix it?

That album was a combination of more traditionl songs with some more experimental spoken-word tracks that were given musical backing.

I thought the storytelling would be interesting to explore. That's when I found @existent_nonexistent and asked if they'd like to collaborate.

What we made together was something quite new for me. That collaboration in turn got me connected with @auguriodrama and @drama.recorder who put out the album.

All of that leads to this album, Real Silence, another new experience for me. For this project I took already written instrumental tracks and created vocals to go ontop (the opposite way from the last album).

I intentionally selected tracks Augurio Drama had written that were as varied as possible. So you'll hear tracks like the opener and closer that are more ambient and dreamlike, but interspersed with this are harder, noiser more sonically intense pieces.

This was also an opportunity for me to experiment more with my vocals.

I'm proud of the result and happy to be continuing to callobate with Neil, Existent/Nonexistent (who provided the photo used for the album cover), Augurio Drama and now also @sarasal_studio who designed the artwork for this release (as well as making other clips to promote it)

These are the kind of relationships I value for making art deep down here in the musical underworld.

Whatever you think of it, I'm pretty sure it won't sound quite like anything else you're listening to at the moment.
