@tomthecomic has written an absolutely brilliant show in @catinaboxshow . Unfortunately I can no longer recommend him for Edinburgh Fringe as his run has come to an end but he is definitely one to look out for in future.

This one resonated with me so much and actually made me super emotional. Tom like myself is a teacher and this show really highlighted the fact that so many children experience some kind of childhood trauma which will go on to shape them and the person they become and that they need people to look out for and support them. It really shone a spotlight onto the role a teacher can play in the life of a child whether this be in a positive or negative way and really reminded me how important my job is.

Tom shares his story with the audience, taking us on a journey of his life. He explained things so vividly supported by the use of movement & audio that you really felt like you were there and in the moment with him. He showed vulnerability while talking about some really difficult topics that he faced as a child including alcoholism, neglect and physical harm as well as the fact that not all family relationships are positive ones.

Tom also touches on trauma as he got older including losing his home in a storm which led to isolation and loneliness and how the impact of trauma led him down the wrong path as he tried to cope. As heartbreaking as his story was to listen to, it was also heartfelt where Tom showed that there can be light at the end of the tunnel.

How Tom has turned his life around and used his trauma to make a difference to others really is inspiring.

A wonderful storyteller and a lovely human being.
