Tone Deaf Pick of the Day: Osees “Off Course” LP - Damn straight, another new Osees record!! Never at all upset about this, and yes the band churns stuff out at a blinding pace, but we are always intrigued if not amazed at all their output. This new album is a departure from the last few oddball schizo punk albums they put out, seeing them combine that weirdness with their previous more psych-jam albums (which we LOVE) for a strange and unique collection of songs. Lots of keyboards, minimal guitar work, and a driving Can-esque beat through the entire thing. Brigid Dawson is back on vocals for a bunch of tunes which totally rules. It’s pretty fucking awesome and sounds like no one else except the Osees….Fuckin’ A!! @loveosees @deathgodrecords taken in Tone Deaf Records by @tonedeafrecs

Just wanted to send some love to Migos Fine Foods and Portage Park Breakfast Place, both of which were broken into last night along with a string of other restaurants in the hood. Both are doing OK and are open today so please go support these wonderful small businesses in our local community. We cannot rave enough about how great the food is at both of these places. If you haven’t been to either now is a great time. Much love to both. @migoschicago @portageparkbreakfastplace taken in Tone Deaf Records by @tonedeafrecs

Tone Deaf Pick of the Day: Railcard “Two Steps At A Time” LP - Who doesn’t love a good super group? (Chickenfoot aside). Railcard are a recently formed supergroup with some serious indie pop royalty on board. Featuring members of Dolly Mixture, Heavenly, Death In Vegas, Trashcan Sinatras and more, it’s no surprise that this record is an absolutely flawless piece of Indie-pop magic. There was some serious love put into these songs. Influences are all over the place including C86 Indie Pop, 60s girls-in-the-garage rock, sexy French pop, and even some motorik-esque Krautrock, but it’s an album full of totally infectious and too easy to sing along to pop songs. Every track on this is a hit. Can’t recommend this enough especially to those who LOVE the members other bands…like we do. Top of the best of 2026 pile for us here. @slumberlandrecords @railcard_band taken in Tone Deaf Records by @tonedeafrecs

TONE DEAF PICK OF THE DAY: The Lemon Pipers “Green Tambourine” (Buddah Records, 1968): The genre know as “bubblegum” has gotten a bad rap over the years, but thankfully has had some cultural reappraisal lately, and in our opinion, no record from that era deserves it more than “Green Tambourine”! Aside from the oldies radio staple that is the title track, the album is a trippy, and at times raging psych record! Look no further than album closer “Through With You”, an 8 minute, 31 second barnstormer that goes on a real musical odyssey! Give this one a second (or first) chance - no better time to grab this pristine used copy in the new arrivals for $15! RECOMMENDED!

Tone Deaf Pick of the Day: Velveteen “My Dreams Are Changing” LP - Absolutely top-notch shoegaze from this London quartet, just released and as far as we can tell we are the only shop in the US carrying this. These guys throw down some absolutely dreamy and ethereal tone bending shoegaze. The production is stunning and the guitars jump out in all their shimmering glory. It’s a beautiful album and we are stoked to be carrying it. You know how much we love our shoegaze at Tone Deaf so if we are endorsing the hell out of this then you know it’s special. This was released by the UK label Noon Records who just shipped us a package of all their vinyl releases, a bunch of excellent dreamy pop that we just put out on our shelves. Come by and check it out! @noon.records taken in Tone Deaf Records by @tonedeafrecs

TONE DEAF PICK OF THE DAY: “Sugar On Blackstone” by Kristin Hersh. The best way to describe this amazing new piece of work from the Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave frontwoman is HEAVY—often sonically massive, with echoing guitars, droning cellos, and thundering percussion; often lyrically devastating, with dark, deeply personal musings on a lifetime of trauma. The album’s expansive, richly-textured soundscapes make the starkness of the arrangements surprising: above all, this is a guitar & vocals record. And these aren’t verse/chorus/bridge pop songs; they’re more like poems set to vamps, the variations emerging from shifts in dynamics and emotional intensity. What stands out is Hersh’s voice—alternately howling like Patti Smith, bitten off like Kim Deal, or at a fragile near-whisper; always raw and stunningly gorgeous. This is a weighty listen, but we can’t recommend it enough.
