July is FIBROID AWARENESS MONTH!
I am not only a Nurse, but also a Fibroid Warrior💪🏾‼️

Fibroids are non-cancerour tumors that can grow in, or around a woman's uterus. Fibroids can be as small as a pea...or as big as a cantaloupe.

About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with fibroids, after experiencing excessive, menstrual bleeding. This bleeding lasted for 7 months straight. It was so bad that I bled through my clothes every 2-3 hrs. It was so bad that I needed 27 iron infusions.

Not only was I dealing with the bleeding....I also had shortness of breath, tachycardia(resting heart rate in the 120's-140's), high blood pressure, a 6 month preggo looking belly, headaches, painful bloating, urinary frequency(due to fibroids on my bladder), abdominal cramping, pelvic pain, dizziness, hair loss, extreme fatigue, & much more.

Above is my pre & post op photos.
I had an open abdominal myomectomy (Fibroid removal) surgery.
Unfortunately doctors could only remove my 5 largest fibroids. So I currently still have about 40 fibroids, & deal with some symptoms. Thankfully my daily bleeding stopped after surgery.

Did you know 80% of black women deal with fibroids??? Did you know...most doctors try to brush our suffering off, by prescribing birth control? Did you know most woman with fibroids, & symptoms suffer in silence?

I'm sharing my story to bring awareness to this issue. More funding ,& research is needed to help women suffering. Chances are you probably know several women dealing with fibroids. Let's not just excuse this away as "women's issues".
