What do you think of how this project turned out? Making a leather tool pouch on the CNC machine using the Donek D4 Drag knife on the new Stepcraft Gen 3 D.840 CNC machine, all available on our website! The drag knife cut the leather perfectly leaving nice clean cuts, I love watching it work! To drill the 5mm holes I used the 363005 solid carbide drill with the 365050 bushing and 47636 adapter at 50ipm plunge rate. For the 2mm holes I used the 363002 2mm solid carbide drill with the 364020 and 47636 adapters. by @toolstoday

Unboxing and assembling the JET Smart Drill Press. One thing that really stood out right away was how well the packaging and layout were designed. Everything is arranged so a single person can put the machine together without needing help. The cutouts and packing make the heavy parts manageable and the whole assembly process surprisingly straightforward. A smart start for a drill press that we’ll be putting to work in upcoming videos. Automatic tool changing is one of those CNC upgrades that completely changes the workflow.
This bat house was cut on the STEPCRAFT M.1000 using the MM-1000DI spindle and automatic tool changer, letting the machine switch tools on its own instead of stopping for every manual tool change.
Watching it return one tool, grab the next and keep the job moving still never gets old.

This shop utility cart is still one of the most useful CNC projects I've made. I cut it on the Stepcraft M.1400 and it gives me a mobile place to keep tools, parts and everything else I need for whatever project I'm working on.

After the caster mounting areas on these heavy-duty wheel dollies started bending while moving our CNC, we reinforced them with ¼-inch steel plate. This 60-second version brings the full project together, from cutting the steel and drilling the mounting holes to deburring, grinding, clamping, and final assembly. The finished plates help spread the load across the caster mounting areas and give the dollies a much stronger base for moving heavy equipment around the shop. You’re probably using the wrong RPM when drilling… especially when switching between materials.
Same 3/8” drill bit across six different materials.
Acrylic, aluminum, brass, hardwood, softwood, and steel.

This oversized acrylic router base completely changed how stable this trim router feels!
We designed a much larger base for our Trend T1, machined it from acrylic on the CNC, added the engraved logos with the xTool P2S and installed double handles for better control.
The difference really shows up on smaller and awkward workpieces where a standard trim router base can be difficult to keep supported. This setup gives the router a much larger footprint and makes it much easier to keep everything flat and controlled.

Making this wooden maze game on the Stepcraft M.1000 CNC. This project uses a mix of engraving, V-carving, acrylic cutting and wood cutting before everything comes together into the finished game.
The clear acrylic top really makes the whole thing work, and the finished maze is a fun project that's actually meant to be used when it's done. Plans are available on our website, item no. MAZ_GAME.

Putting our custom acrylic Trend router base to work for the first time!

After cutting the base on the CNC and adding the engraved logos it was finally time to mount it to the router and see how it performed.

This piece I needed to route has several awkward areas where a standard trim router base would be very difficult to keep stable. The larger acrylic base and double handles made it much easier to control the router without worrying about it tipping as I worked around the piece.

This one turned out even better than I hoped and should be a really useful addition to the shop! Check out the tools used on our website!

Standard router bit bearings can be too large to follow the tight inside corners on CNC cut parts like this.
The Amana Tool MR0110 Mini Roundover Bit uses a tiny 3/16" ball bearing that can get right into those areas while leaving a clean 3/32" roundover along the edge. It’s one of my favorite ways to soften the edges on CNC projects without having to hand sand everything.
The ball bearing also rolls along the workpiece instead of dragging across it like a brass pilot bit, helping leave a clean finish without burning. There are several other miniature profiles available as well. Check out the tools used available from @toolstoday!

Cutting this red embossed leather on the CNC using a Donek D4 Drag Knife. This was a test for a customer to make sure the material would cut the way they needed, and the drag knife handled it beautifully.
The spindle stays off for this cut and the blade simply follows the CNC toolpath, leaving really clean edges without tearing up the embossed surface. Watching the knife work through material like this is incredibly satisfying.
