Why have you been collecting Tora’s neighbouring rights since 2017?

We never gave you that right.

We explicitly told you to stop in 2022 when we realized what was going on. In writing. You admitted you didn’t have the right to collect — and kept collecting anyway.

It’s 2026. Still going.

I’ve just served you guys a formal demand letter. 14 days to pay back every dollar. Zero commission.

INDIE ARTISTS LISTEN UP: Check your collection societies database which would be SoundExchange — PPL, GVL, Re:Sound, SENA, PPCA etc depending on where you are…

Sometimes companies claim rights that don’t belong to them, rights that you may not even realize exist, royalties that are rightfully yours and shouldn’t be commissioned or delayed by middlemen who never actually acquired that right.

Has anyone else had issues like this?

They were talking about me behind my back.
And I have the emails.

These were disclosed to me under Canadian privacy law — obtained from an internal exchange between APRA and SOCAN about my data requests.

Emails I was never supposed to see.

APRA telling SOCAN to send me back to them — while telling me they had nothing more to give.

SOCAN admitting internally they would only hand over my data if the Privacy Commissioner legally forced them to.

Read those slides carefully.

Then ask yourself what’s under that black block — and why two organisations mandated to collect our royalties coordinated across two countries to stop one artist from seeing his own data.

This is bigger than me. This is every artist on the planet.

Here’s some evidence of my claims about the PRO network, these statements were provided under regulatory review:

‘While we acknowledge your interest in receiving further information, we cannot supply the further datasets described in your request, including around transaction-level records, usage or detailed methodological documentation. In many cases we neither hold such information nor hold the authority to obtain it.

As noted, the completeness and quality of data we receive varies, and usage does not always translate directly to payment. As a result, it is not feasible for us to verify all individual usage to the extent you have suggested or provide documentation demonstrating that every individual stream, performance or broadcast of your work has been recorded and accounted for at the level of detail you seek.‘ by @toramusic
