This is it! The big fish reveal. This kid had to pull himself down and shove both arms all the way in the hole to get it, but he never gave up. What a fish! Not bad for a 10 year old. 😅 This was definitely a team effort. I’m so ready for more days and memories like this one!

I helped my friend Haley track her buck after she lost the blood trail. We spent nearly an hour searching and tracking this deer. She stuck him good, but after finding her arrow we weren’t able to find much blood and painstakingly searched the woods finding drops here and there. Eventually we found him not even 150 yds from her stand. Proud of her and our efforts packing him out and getting him loaded onto her truck! He was a HOSS.

INDIANA BUCK DOWN and the first archery buck taken off this piece of ground in about eleven years! I’m feeling so stoked right now! It was a great day to be in the woods. 🦌🏹

Special thanks to my buddy @1kuntzadam for helping me track him this morning (even though we didn’t have to go far, thankfully) and to my father-in-law for being such great support. 🫶🏼

I took him home and managed to get him gutted, skinned, and hanging in the walk-in cooler myself, so I’m feeling pretty accomplished today. 😁

Headed to the woods for my first sit of the season this evening and I can’t wait! I blinked and we’re 1/3 of the way through October. 😅😭 All those hours I’ve put in overseeding yards is going to pay off soon when I get a break (hopefully during the peak of the rut). Until then I’ll take a few hours any chance I can get.

I’ll be trying out these new Rocky Talkie Expedition Radios this season. Up where I’m hunting there’s little to no service, so these will be a big relief for me knowing I can radio someone if I get into a dangerous situation OR I need some help packing out a deer. 😉 (I’m banking on the latter.) taken in Indiana by @tornadoalli11

“No point in passing a buck when the neighbors are just going to shoot it anyway.”

I get it. I used to get so frustrated when I’d pass a deer that just ended up getting shot later in the season. It can be a bummer for sure, especially if it was a buck with some promising genetics. However, I’ve reframed how I think about it. Now when I hear those shots opening morning, I’m praying a good shot was made and imagine whoever’s hunting is making that call full of joy and excitement to somebody they love about how they just smoked a big one. I wonder if maybe it was somebody’s first buck and if they’ll be as hooked on the hunt now as I am. I hope that whatever deer they just shot, they’ll be telling stories and sharing memories at hunt camp about for years to come.

Yes I strive to eventually join the Boone and Crockett Club, but I also understand everyone has different goals when they step into the woods. Sometimes it’s somebody just hoping to fill the freezer. It could be a child and parent making lasting memories together. Maybe someone was hunting and planned to shoot a bigger deer, but couldn’t suppress that buck fever. We’ve all been there. We’ve all been in many of these situations. When it comes down to it, the hunt is what it means to you, not anyone else. If you want to shoot that 2 year old and it makes you happy - do it. Don’t make excuses about it “not being the biggest deer but…” The hunt is different for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with that. Be happy you’re one of the few who made it out there and made it happen, whether that means passing on a good buck and eating your tags this season or making a shot and celebrating your success with friends and family.

I’m still hoping to find success this season, but if I don’t, just maybe next Fall one of those deer I let walk will give me the opportunity I’ve been dreaming of. by @tornadoalli11

Brought the band back together for a weekend of hiking in Red River Gorge. I’ve been training for my November elk hunt, so why not make it fun with some of my favorite gal pals from home and an escape into the Appalachians? (We hiked 7+miles one loop and then tackled the Sky Bridge and Chimney Top for sunset views.) No service. No plan. Just good old fashioned fun. Not to mention it’s nearly impossible for us to get together, so when a weekend finally opens up for everyone…you take it. taken in Kentucky by @tornadoalli11
