I’ll never be naïve enough to believe that me alone would have had the power to convince my brother to stay in this world when he was being convinced to leave, but it doesn’t stop me from wishing I’d asked more, had more knowledge, been better educated. I wish I had the skills to notice the signs right in front of me. It seems that since he took his own life, mental health has become something much more widely and openly spoken about. Even though I’ve experienced what it’s like to lose someone so close to be to suicide, even I struggle to feel comfortable at times with people’s heavy things that they’re carrying, not knowing how to support. But I do know that trying is worth so much, even when it feels uncomfortable. Something I live by is “vulnerability creates connection” and connection really is something we humans need. So get vulnerable, ask the questions, share your stories, you never know who might be needing that. by @torri_ellenvn
