More race reflections ⬇️ Mom anxiety 🤷‍♀️ I have always had race anxiety. Usually masked by logistics of travelling for a race. So since not travelling to a race it has been made obvious that in fact it is the race causing anxiety. Since having Grayson it also seems like it’s been worse. I spoke to a couple racing moms who shared they have felt this too. 🤷‍♀️ It is a weird thing. I can’t pin exactly what it is stemming from but I am just anxious and can’t sleep. Not spinning, just awake. Truly frustrating. It seems irrelevant to have such anxiety as I am not trying to PB and my times do not mean anything and yet I am more anxious than ever. It is truly taking the joy from the process of racing, which really sucks. But as some of my close friends made a point of, maybe I am putting pressure on myself to prove that I could get back to close to my pre baby times. And maybe I need to accept that I am different now and my performance will be too and that is okay. That and the duality you are faced with as a mom chasing her own big goals while also trying to be the best mom to a little one. 🙃 I am sure this did not help the chest tightness I was feeling (see previous post). 🙃 Anyways sharing in case there are other moms out there feeling this. You’re not alone! Ps. Also look at how big he is now 😭 #momlife #runningmom #racingmom by @torunningchiro
The lead up… The training was great and I didn’t miss anything! I loved it so much! And definitely checked off my 2026 goal of making running more social thanks to @rhythm_athletics. But it also shows that having great training does not guarantee a result on the day. But I had some weird stuff happen in the last month of training. About a month before the race I did a hard workout (running faster than I have maybe ever) and had some chest tightness the rest of the day. Chalked it up to frying my nervous system from the speed work and didn’t think much of it. But it kept happening. The chest tightness/heaviness and shortness of breath continued, it would come and go. Until two weeks before the race when it was unrelenting. So I went to the ER to get things checked out (it seemed like the easiest way to get answers). My heart was clear and the diagnosis was chest wall tightness. So I got tons of manual work thanks to @therunnersacademy and used the FSM. And luckily it subsided. But it definitely freaked me out. After all people die due to heart complications in marathons. I am sure anxiety contributed (more on that in a coming post) as well. That and a busy life with multiple important roles I am trying to be the best I can at. 🫠 Likely there is some physical and mental component. I will see my doc to continue to investigate to be safe. Regardless, I had never experienced this. It was bizarre. Before the race and since the race I have felt more normal. This is not as an excuse, as I said in my last post, at the end of the day I just didn’t have it. I just like to share the whole story and maybe it will help someone else out there. It truly is why the marathon is so beautiful there is so much more to the story than just the one day. 📷 @johnwithlenses #chooseTOrun #waterfrontmarathon by @torunningchiro
Sometimes finishing is the win. TCS @towaterfront42k was certainly not what I wanted. But on a day where I just didn’t have ‘IT’ (whatever it is). Both mentally and physically I didn’t have it, just finishing was an accomplishment. My training was good, I didn’t miss anything. And honestly had so much fun training with @rhythm_athletics There were definitely some contributing factors that I will share more about, but there are no excuses. I did not want to finish, but I kept saying just get to this point. And eventually it just made more sense to finish. That and when I said I wanted to stop to @paddybirch he asked how I would feel about it tomorrow… I begrudgingly kept running. Fastest way for it to be over was to run. And I thought about Grayson waiting for me on Bay st and wanting to show him that we can do hard things, even when we really don’t want to! The thought of all the time I spent training and not wanting to ‘waste it’ crossed my mind. But that was fleeting, I love training and would never consider it a waste, even if I DNF. I am also so grateful to be able to finish on a day where it was not going my way, I do not take it for granted. Thanks to everyone out there cheering. Getting to all the cheer stations was also a huge motivator!! 🙏🎉 For now I need a break from racing the marathon. The first thing I said to Mike was “don’t let me do that again, I don’t want to do that again”. So putting that here too, so you can all hold me to it! I had the same kind of feeling during and after the London marathon (which I should have listened to 🫠). 15 marathons completed, I know they are not all going to go my way. And I am so grateful for the ones that have. Onwards… Biggest congrats to everyone who had a great day out there, it made me so happy to see so many amazing results!!! 🎉🎉🎉 More reflections to come… 📷 @bh_physio #chooseTOrun #tcswaterfrontmarathon by @torunningchiro
Here we gooooo… ✨✨✨✨ Did not exactly mean to train for a marathon this fall but here we are. I just had so much fun training with @rhythm_athletics all summer. Wellllll when you play marathon training long enough you may as well run a marathon so… ✨ @towaterfront42k here I come! ✨ I have been all over the place as to whether I would run a marathon and if so, which one it would be. Honestly was just enjoying the training, so may as well put it to work! THREE weeks, let’s gooooo!!! #towaterfront42k #marathontraining 🎥 @paddybirch by @torunningchiro

✨’Playing’ marathon training✨ …is what I have been telling myself/everyone I am doing right now. And honestly I am having so much fun with it! Trying to take myself a little less seriously (easier said than done)! I have spent many years going all in on my marathon training and this year I am going about it in a lighter way. Still working hard without the (self induced) pressure. Working out with people has been such a game changer with @rhythm_athletics and I am always so happy after a session! If I was going to do this again, I needed it to be a bit more social. And truly this is the most important piece of marathon training, enjoying the PROCESS! And suddenly I am 5x 30k+ workouts deep. So may as well race something 🤷‍♀️😅 NGL not really sure how to live my life without marathon training… help! What’s your training block mindset?! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 📷 @chintanparmardp by @torunningchiro
With a few new followers I wanted to do a quick re-introduction. I am Britt, a runner, chiro, coach & my most proud title: mom. Running is my favourite thing and I am so lucky to have a life where my passions and work intertwine. I have been a lifelong runner and have been competing in the marathon since 2014, finishing a total of 14 marathons thus far, with a PB of 2:33:37. I am extremely lucky to get to work with many runners as a chiro @therunnersacademy and coach @stridewiserunning. I love helping other runners find more potential on the run and work towards their goals! Lastly I am a mom of a busy toddler. This picture is in my first postpartum marathon @towaterfront42k and it is truly one of my favourites to date. 💕 Currently I am soft training for a fall marathon, tbd if I actually do it 😂. Working on some other things too… I have been a lot more quiet on Instagram since becoming a mom. But I am trying to get back to posting. So here we goooo! Thanks for being here. If you have ideas of posts you’d love to see let me know in the comments ⬇️ 📷 @chintanparmardp by @torunningchiro
