If you’re dealing with a chronic or acute condition, I usually recommend having 1 massage a week for 3 weeks to get your Lymphatic System working more efficiently again. From there we reassess.

On the other hand, if you’re feeling healthy and would like to add it to your general maintenance/wellbeing routine, then every 4-8 weeks usually works great for my clients ⚖️

I’m so glad you’ve decided to try this treatment. Now that it’s over, this is what you need to do for the next 12-24hrs to make the most of your session.

- drink plenty of water (filtered is great). It’ll help remove those excess toxins we just shifted.
- try to stay relaxed. Some ideas… have an epsom salt bath, a nap, do some breath-work/meditation, read a book, watch your fav film, turn your phone to do not disturb.
- skip high intensity exercise and keep it mellow. Think a walk in nature, a gentle yoga class, some stretching or nothing but rest :)
- avoid alcohol and caffeine
- steer clear of foods that aggravate your digestion (such as sugar or processed foods) and instead nourish yourself with whole foods that your body loves.

And of course make your next appointment :)

Moments from our last day retreat.

Our day was filled with intentional movement, long stretches, massage, yummy snacks, yoga nidra and meditation, that even left us feeling all floaty afterwards.

We intended to sneak in another retreat before Al’s baby arrived but life happened. For now Tarren has a few workshops in the works. So keep your eyes peeled.

- Yin and pin 25th of October at @rituel_fitness

We will be back next year with more nervous system restoration. ❣️ taken in Rituel Fitness by @touchbodymind

I’m showing the aesthetics of this treatment. But it’s really about releasing tightness in your face, jaw, neck, and scalp and boosting lymph. Some of my clients come back monthly to stay on top of jaw tension/pain, one client refers to this as her “jaw appointment”.

If my legs were feeling heavy, puffy or like they were holding onto extra fluid, I’d start with these simple things:

~ Getting enough movement ~ walking, riding or swimming are excellent. You don’t need to max out, gentle movement helps support circulation as well as lymph flow.

~ Wear compression stockings ~ particularly if I was sitting or standing for long periods, travelling, or noticing more swelling by the end of the day. I wear them everyday in clinic, mine are knee high and from @funkysockco

~ Legs up the wall ~ Straight up, not just slightly elevated, and for 10 minutes at the end of the day. For an added benefit, practice deep belly breathing while your legs are up.

~ Stay hydrated ~ regular water throughout the day supports healthy fluid balance. Don’t chug it all down in one or two sittings hehe.

~ Lymphatic drainage massage (of course) ~ this gentle treatment encourages the movement of fluid through the lymphatic system.

And, as always, I’d look at the bigger picture too ~ sleep, stress, nutrition included.

Simple things, done consistently, can make all the difference :) :) :)

Any q’s let me know.

NB. If swelling is one-sided, painful or accompanied by redness or warmth, it’s best to get it checked by your health practitioner. taken in Melbourne, Australia by @touchbodymind

Understanding Yoga Philosophy (and talking about it), is where I find the real gems of yoga. I’ll share with you, one of the Kleshas (the causes of suffering). It’s Avidyā, often translated as “ignorance”.

Not ignorance in the sense of lacking knowledge, but seeing things differently from how they really are.

I was recently talking about this with a friend who works with people who can be quite combative and defensive.

He’s often left feeling frustrated because he wishes they would communicate differently or behave with more kindness.

As we spoke, we explored the idea that if he continues expecting these people to show up differently, despite them behaving the same way, he’s likely setting himself up for disappointment. The suffering isn’t only coming from their behaviour, but also from his expectation that they should be someone they’re not.

This is Avidyā.

It doesn’t mean we approve of hurtful behaviour or stop having healthy boundaries. It simply means we begin seeing situations more clearly, rather than through the lens of how we wish they would be.

When we can meet reality as it is, instead of resisting it, there’s often more space, more acceptance and less unnecessary suffering. by @touchbodymind

In Sunday’s Slow Flow class, we began with a gentle pranayama (breath control) practice, and added the mantra “So Hum”.

Inhaling and silently saying “So” and exhaling “Hum”. So Hum is often described as the natural sound of the breath. And can be very soothing for many because of that. There are greater meanings of So Hum, but I won’t go into it today.

I offered this practice because pairing the breath with a mantra gives the mind a gentle place to rest, it helps create gaps between thoughts, can assist in settling into the present moment, and finding a meditative state. It takes practice, but that’s all part of it…

I’ve written a blog “meditation made simple” which has a list of mantras you could try out and techniques to make your meditation a little more straight forward. Using a mantra is what helped me create a consistent meditation practice, maybe it will for you too? The link is in my bio. LMK if you have any Q’s about it or your meditation practice :)

FAQ: Where should I meditate?
Literally anywhere! You can set up a dedicated spot in your home, but you also don’t need to (I haven’t). I meditate wherever I can according to that day’s schedule. Sometimes it’s in the living room, sitting up in bed, on a park bench, in an uber, before a yoga class… For me it’s not about the setting, it’s just about making it fit into my day.

I hope this is helpful. DM if you want more tips :)
