Cat has been in the industry for more than two decades and worked as a character designer for studios such as Aardman Animations and Passion Pictures. Cat’s work is mostly influenced by folklore, nature and childhood memories which you can tell when you watch her recent project aka her latest short film ‘The Wickywock and the JubJub Berry’.

Tova Persson is a Swedish animation director and storyboard artist based in Bristol. Often drawing inspiration from oil paintings and her Swedish roots, Tova’s work revolves around the humour of the strange and melancholic, frequently expressed through dramatic scenery and myths. Her film Offerlamm has won multiple global recognitions and is her directorial debut.

Renee Zhan is a Chinese-American director and animator. Renee graduated with an BA from Harvard University and an MA in directing animation from the National Film and Television school. In her films Renee is primarily interested in exploring topics of female identity, nature, and sexuality – all things beautiful, ugly, and squishy

Panel host Tanya J Scott is an award-winning director and creator based in London. Her film The Wolf of Custer has gone on to screen at Oscar and BAFTA qualifying festivals worldwide and won a British Animation Award in 2024.

Earlier this year we hosted an event for @uwebristol for their Professional Practice week where we invited @tovaperson to share more about the behind the scenes of her exciting animation career so far to the current students! Thank you Tova for sharing 🩷

We had some brilliant work shared from students and UWE animation graduates, you can find out more and support the artist on our page!

If you’re a student, new to Bristol or just want to have a one-on-one with an industry expert, be sure to come along to the latest edition of BAM at Golden Guinea on June 10th from 7:00pm! The fourth of our industry professionals joining us for one-to-one slots is Tova Persson @tovaperson

Tova is a Bristol based animation director, production coordinator, and storyboard artist as well as a co-organiser for BAM!

With 4 years of experience she has worked with roles varying from designer, storyboard artist, and production coordinator. Having worked for a handful of Bristol based companies like Sun & Moon, Rumpus, A Productions, and Aardman where she has been involved in projects for Sesame Street, Horrible Science, BBC Bitesize, and Penhaligons.

Tova directed the short Offerlamm whilst studying at UWE’s School of Animation which had a successful international festival run and won multiple awards. Offerlamm is part of the national archive of contemporary animation at the BFI, has been presented at Playgrounds in Motion, and was nominated for an Audience Award at the British Animation Awards.

She currently works for @luxaeternavfx as their production coordinator working with natural history series and is getting ready to direct her next short!

Tova is happy to discuss:

- Breaking into the industry

- Portfolio advice

- Working in different areas like production and storybording

- Producing short films and applying to festivals!

And our second funding recipient of 2026 is 🥁… ‘Otter’ dir. by @tovaperson !

The 2D animated short film Otter follows two taxidermied otters who are reflecting about their past, when a conflicting nostalgia is awoken through a shared surrealist memory.

“Dir/Prod Swedish-Bristol based duo Tova Persson and Grace Harris, both have a series of animated projects on their CV having worked for British studios like Sun & Moon, Rumpus, and A Productions. Tova’s directorial debut Offerlamm has been a festival hit being shown internationally and won multiple awards and Grace has over 4 years of production experience in the world of British Animation.”

“As Otter is in early pre-production, receiving the Are You Seeing This ‘Cherry on Top’ fund is a great asset to catalyze our project to a start. Using the funding we will bring on a small team of animators to assist in bringing our film to life by providing pay for our hardworking team and to add some extra pizazz to our animated shots!”

I always try to whip together a St Lucia drawing ahead of December 13th but I took my winter holiday very seriously this year… 🧖‍♀️😴 With it being done closer to the new year why not combine it with a horse to celebrate year of the horse huh? Everything is better with a pony by @tovaperson

Tova Persson is a Swedish animation director and storyboard artist based in Bristol. Often drawing inspiration from oil paintings and her Swedish roots, Tova's work revolves around the humour of the strange and melancholic, frequently expressed through dramatic scenery and myths. Her film Offerlamm has won multiple global recognitions and is her directorial debut.

Tova will be joining us at the Barbican Centre on Friday 10th October for our panel on ‘Hand Made Horrors’ at @inmotion.playgrounds In Motion Festival.

Offerlamm is officially available to watch on YouTube! 🐑

This feels like a farewell as I’m sending this sheep out to pasture but I can’t be happier to share the film with the world beyond a hidden link and festival screenings!

Offerlamm has officially been featured in over 40 international festivals and swept home some lovely awards varying from RTS craft awards, a giant film roll sculpture from Athens, and even opened up the possibility for UWE to submit to the student Oscar’s. When I finished this film my biggest goal was to have it shown in Ireland at Animation Dingle - and not only did it get that but also banned from being screened in public at Dunhuang film festival, had me present a fumbled speech on stage at the BFI, and won an award in my little hometown of Lund in Sweden! A huge honor has been that it’s part of the archive for British contemporary animation over at the BFI and lead to some amazing opportunities.

I could not have done this without my AMAZING team. My killer animators and sound team really swept this over the finish line back in 2022.
