🦌 Fall Deer Mating Season Brings Increased Risk for Motorists

While deer are a year-round presence in East Hampton fall brings changes in their behavior that can make them especially unpredictable on our roads.

October through December marks the deer breeding season, commonly known as the β€œrut.” During this period, male deer, or bucks, travel greater distances in search of mates, often crossing roads more frequently and with less caution. This increased movement raises the risk of deer-vehicle collisions.

The Town of East Hampton reminds motorists to take extra precautions, particularly around dawn and dusk, when deer are most active! taken in Town of East Hampton by @townofeasthampton
