I was reminded today, by a lady called Christie, who posted her finished image of her long fair isle hat scarf on a Facebook knitting group. I was so happy because it is my pattern and someone in the comments added a photo of theirs and they finished this week too and that was a lady called Christine and I know that Jane finished hers awhile back so it’s relighted my fire of this really easy fun long hat scarf pattern

Honestly, anyone can make it there is no shaping, it is just decreases at the joint. It is knitted in the round and if you catch your ends when you are knitting, you don’t even have to sew them in.

If this is too many colours for you, you could knit it in Black and Shetland White and it would look fabulous. I would love to see one in just Shetland Black and Shetland White.
Anyway, thank you Christie and Christine and Jane for sharing your photos this morning on that big Facebook group here they are at the end of this carousel post

this is a great pattern to put on your needles for this winter. It is an infectious knit. You can’t put it down.
Link in my Instagram bio for this pattern on revelry
Or Google Tracey Doxey Ravelry

There are also lots of blog posts about making this on my website if you want to have a dig

It definitely feels like the end of summer, even though the day was warm the nights are drawing in and it is dark by 7 pm
I have had such joy from my Dahlia flowers this year and I absolutely believe that these are the last of my summer flowers
What better way to celebrate…

If you have started following me because my post from two days ago, then you might have found me because of my colourful knitting designs
But here are some slides of how I start my ideas for a knitting pattern
I always start from inspiration which leads into the colour decisions, swatches, changes

If you would like to start to build your own colour swatch journal, then I have a four month journal Group. Nip to the Workshop’s page on my website.
Or Google Tracey Doxey Workshop

It could be a kaleidoscope that inspires me like my latest jumper name and pattern or for instance, people - Susan Halcrow, a woman that lived in the Shetland house that I bought for 83 years

I don’t just knit and design patterns quickly. they are inspired by something that has touched me in my life and colour can make the whole thing sing

So, here you can see some of my swatches for colour choices or design choices or positioning of a thumb in a mitt or crown pattern in a hat

And, if you are here for inspiration, then take a look at my blog and subscribe to stories for free
There is a link in my bio to subscribe to my website
Or Google traceyDoxey.com

what do these slides make you think or feel of colour or design or ideas? Leave me a comment, save for later inspiration or share to your friends

Hello everyone, it’s time that I re-introduced myself because I have had some new followers

Hi, my name is Tracey and I have far too many ideas rushing around in my head, most of them include colour, yarn, or knitting
I design knitting patterns to help you become more confident with colour. They range from fair isle charts to very very easy chunky knitting patterns

I teach online knitting workshops and I have my next colour blending Workshop on 6th November

And I’m very proud of my colour Swatch journal groups - my Next group start on January 1, 2027 so getting in touch via my website if you would like to join me

There is information about my workshops in the link in my Instagram bio or Google Tracey Doxey Workshops

I used to live in Shetland and I loved it. I bought a Croft house that faced the sea and I wrote a book whilst I was there - which I am revisiting.

Now I’m really happy to be back in Sheffield where I’m engaged and participating a lot of different things

Sometimes I travel - like for the one month artist residency at the base of Mount Fuji or last week, closer to home, off gridding at Edenfold in North Yorkshire, but wherever I go, I always take my knitting. Always.
I love my Cat, I love wearing my hand knitted jumpers and vests and I love especially wearing them when it snows in England

So if you are new here, welcome, but if you followed me for some time, thank you for following my journey and if you have ever bought a knitting pattern, or Workshop or colour watch journal place then I am really very grateful - honestly

There are links in my Instagram bio to my patterns or workshops, but just Google Tracey Doxey patterns or Tracey Doxey workshops and you’ll find me

When, even at 63 years old, you can still play
Thank you too Eden Fold for letting me plait some of your meadow long grass. I keep revisiting my life in any long grass. I recommend it. Lie down in long grass with the autumn sun on your face

Bliss

Gifted stay @edenfold

Big thank you to Gemma and Dan for allowing me to feel free.

Dawn @eden.fold brings one huge beautiful treasure
If you are patient, and if you wait, you will witness the most magnificent barn owl looking for his breakfast

And this morning he flew directly over overhead

Moments like this elevate me to a real heightened sense of being and living

Thank you, Big beautiful bird.
You are my highlight

I wanted to stay somewhere off-grid, close to the land, to step away from home for a little while and be more aware of the world around me — and of my own footprint upon it. I also wanted space and time to work, think creatively, develop the colours for my next knit project and, importantly, to read because I am resurrecting my book about Shetland

So, here I am @eden.fold , three cabins and four bell tents nestled into meadow and woodland, with a resident barn owl, geese flying overhead at sunset and the wind all around my little off-grid cabin.

Eden Fold is the happy, vibrant, passion project of Gemma and Dan, and it shows in every detail. From opening the cabin door to find its rich wooden interior, and Gemma arriving with homemade honey soda bread, to unpacking my little food supplies into the beautifully considered outdoor kitchen.

The whole ethos here is sustainability. The cabin is powered by solar energy, with soft lighting and USB charging, and there’s no Wi-Fi — although the 4G signal is excellent.

Gemma and Dan even offered me the geodome, usually a communal space, so I could knit under the light. It is quite breathtaking.

It feels good to stretch my solo wild-living muscles again. I’m already a little bit in love with @eden.fold . 🌿

Gifted stay | Collaboration with Eden Fold
Thank you, Gemma and Dan. 🤎

Here are some of my patterns from the last year. I have been really taken by the chunky knit vest pattern which you can use your stash or any chunky yarn to make this vest. Or, You can Ply any yarns together to make chunky yarn to achieve this look. I’ve loved it so much that I have knitted five versions. There are many other versions on Ravelry, if you want to have a look at how other people have used their stash and knitted it too - it’s an addictive knit and I’ll be doing a face-to-face Workshop hearing in Sheffield on how to make it, in the New Year

One of my other favourite knits is my kaleidoscope jumper which I originally knitted in Blue and pinks from @thewoolbrokers , in Lerwick

and then I knitted the same jumper with larger needles in over 100 colours
And then there is my fair isle chart on Ravelry, which shares all the colours that I used in my first knit with sleeves and then I knitted it for my sister as a vest without sleeves in just black, grey, navy, dark red, and mustard. I am very much inspired by the colours that surround me and these very much feed into My Work.

I love to wear my knitted jumpers or vests with tartan and I now have my very first kilt - the Derry Kilt from @plumostudio
if you would like to knit any of the jumpers or vests that feature in this carousel then please go to the link in my Instagram bio for links to Ravelry or just Google Tracey Doxey Ravelry

Would you like to knit any of the best in this post but have not yet taken the leap? Any of them would be a great autumn project

Let me know what you think in the comments
Love from Tracey and Tiggy

Who would’ve known how much peace my tiny allotment plot and a borrowed greenhouse with tomatoes would have given me for 7 months?

Not only have I made the best tomato soups and tomato sauces for my pasta but I have found such peace sitting under an apple tree with my knitting just staring at trees and light and soil and the speed of growth of plants from May to September I’ve learned so much and have plans for next year for butternut squash, Prince squash, French beans, tomatoes, fennel, and flowers. My one and only aubergine has not ripened so maybe it will still be growing next year. I have no idea so these are photographs going back from this evening 27th of September over the last month.
I posted in April when I first got this little plot and I think the biggest thing that has come out of it for me is a sense of calm
Let me know what you think. I should grow next year because I’m sticking to things that I like.
