Kentucky’s a special place full of special people, and when we looked out at this crowd … wow.

Many people know F. Scott Fitzgerald spent time at Camp Taylor. Almost no one knows how deeply Louisville shaped him, or "The Great Gatsby."

New research by writer Cassie Tatum, commissioned by @uncleboojies, traces Fitzgerald's repeated visits to Kentucky between 1914 and 1918 into the heart of Louisville's social and economic world: old-money families, self-made bootleggers, and the bourbon networks running through Louisville and Nelson County. Families like the Howards and Athertons, and figures like Martin "Mr. Jesse" Spalding, a Howardstown bootlegger whose life reads like a Gatsby character before Gatsby existed. Tatum's work makes the case that the ambition, reinvention, and moral ambiguity at the core of the novel were shaped, in part, right here in Kentucky.

That history isn't just literary. It's in the whiskey. Uncle Boojie's founder Stephen Smith traces his own Howard family roots back to those same Kentucky whiskey-making traditions — and we're proud to be working with Uncle Boojie's to bring that history back to life.

At Whiskey House of Kentucky , we're recreating the historic Howard family mashbill from original family records going back 200 years. Taking an archival recipe and translating it into modern, high-quality production is exactly what we built this company to do.

We'll be hosting an invitation-only tasting and discussion of Cassie's research at the Whiskey House Chalet with @estespublicrelations during the @kybourbonfest on September 11th. taken in Bardstown, Kentucky by @tracy_estespr
