A proper glute bridge….

I tell my clients often how adaptable the body is and how you can use secondary structures/muscles to perform a specific task. Hip extension

For example if I have a hard time maintaining good core stability my lower back and hip flexors can take over in a glute bridge. Also if my foot isn’t rooted into the floor (knees widen) and the medial arch or inner edge of the foot doesn’t stay down we don’t get the good alignment and balance of muscles recruited to extend the hip properly.

You may notice doing it this way almost feels like a cramp or that you don’t move much. That is okay if you are working through the correct muscles. As you continue, your range will improve and cramping subsides.

Another thing. Go very slow at first to really find the posterior leg muscles lift the hips

Brother & sister tag team!

My little sister Jahnae host a run club in Mt Dora on Sundays at 8am. This marked her first full year with @sunrunclub_mtdora !!

I came to support her and go through a short bodyweight workout after we ran 💪🏼..

Had a good time and thankful for a sister who is always growing and loves to help and support others…

She also host a “women’s walk Wednesdays” .. give her a shout if you’re interested in joining. I will tag her pages.

Here is a quick video demonstrating a side plank with the top leg abducting. From the abducted position we oscillate through hip flexion and extension.

Me and Joe have been training for over a year and have seen significant improvement in his overall fitness and quality of movement.

The exercise in the video helps to promote better hip stability from side to side. Also teaching the body how to move through one hip as the other side stabilizes. Keeping the trunk organized so there is minimal involvement of the spinal column.

MODIFIED HYROX TRAINING 🔥
.
.
.
.
I joined our hyrox class @genesishealthclubsorlando . It kicked my tail 🔥🥵. Details below

In any order, but must complete….

800m jog/run (only thing you do twice, one was the warmup)
1000m row
50 dead stop pushups
50 burpees to jump
200 reverse lunges (100 each leg)
100 dumbbell squat to press (died)

Bonus (if you complete all the above)

500m ski erg
10 sled drags (I did 6 then my right quad start cramping)

Give that workout a try. It was a good to see where my conditioning was. Not too shabby but could be better.

Performance session with Melissa

Recently I started working with Melissa and wanted to highlight some of our training.

Performance is all about moving well and efficiently. Melissa let me know she likes to keep active outside of her job in the medical field and wanted her workouts to be more performance based.

Jumps, single leg, single arm, explosive movements etc…

Always make sure to warm up the body properly before increasing the intensity within the session…

Two CORE drills that don’t look like core drills. (and provides much more)

1. 1/2 kneeling kettlebell pullover : make sure the knee is under the hip and the back foot dorsiflexed. The goal is to drive hip extension while keeping the trunk/pelvis organized and allowing the kettlebell to go overhead while holding the body stable/still. Minimize any movement. Breathe and drive through your back hip in a controlled manner. Neck relaxed and elbows pointing forward.

2. Standing ipsilateral landmine press : keep a good knee bend and also hips behind you throughout. Your foot/hip is the driving force behind the press. Neck relaxed as you press and avoid side flexing, rotating, or arching your back. Foot pressures on the heel and both corners of the forefoot.

The foot and ankle complex often get overlooked. Strong and mobile feet provide a foundation for the rest of the body to move fluidly.

The foot is meant to change shapes. If you have flat feet, “over pronation”, knee valgus, or don’t feel as stable on one foot compared to the other give these drills a try!

1. Toe curls - a medium resistance theraband is all you need. Step on the band and keep the heel, base of pinky toe and base of big toe down. All the toes to flex and stretch against the pull of the band. Then push and curl toes down to the floor for reps. 2 sets of 15-20 reps

2. Active supination - use a medium to heavy mini band. Feet hip width. Allow the band to pull the ankles in and relax the feet. Then actively push the ankles outward into the band but be careful not to lose the foot contacts, especially the base of the big toe and heel.

3. Resisted abduction - use a light mini band for this. One end under the base of the big toe, the other around the ankle. Find balance on one leg and focus on the foot contacts. Inner & outer heel, pinky and big toe base. The mini band will slip out if you don’t. Use a dowel or wall for balance until you feel strong enough to stand alone. This also integrates the hips.

Give these a try and let me know what you think
