As we confront and pay the heavy price of censorship today, we have never needed your solidarity more. The cessation of TJC's website and social media accounts means you all have more work to do. You have to be the eyes, ears and voices we can no longer be. You have to ask the tough questions, act with courage, and together, we have to show this government that we will not forgive them for silencing us, and we will make them pay for stripping us of our freedoms. We fight on!

Door-knocking is an opportunity for volunteers and residents alike to exercise our political agency by engaging in conversations about the policies that govern our lives. What is the society that we want to imagine and build together? It is only when we start talking to one another that we can understand everyone's needs and opinions, so that we can work towards our collective interests together.

The Transformative Justice Collective put our boots on the ground again today. Want to participate in this democratic exercise? Join us on our door-knocking efforts by dropping us a DM via @transformjustice.sg. 🚪

🗒 What myths about Singapore's drug policy did we debunk with Shayla and Steve at the first webinar of this year's World Day against the Death Penalty?

Onto Myth #2! We show that Singapore's punitive and violent drug policy harms our communities by failing to meet the healthcare needs of people who use drugs, and empowering potent, unregulated drugs to dominate a market that won't go anywhere. With the worsening of existing problems and the introduction of new ones, we must urgently transform how our society responds to drugs in ways that will keep people and communities safer and healthier.

"There seems to be no logical connection between the death penalty for drug trafficking and stopping the ills or the harms of drug use," Rocky shared in dialogue with Dr Mai Sato as they scrutinised the deterrence effect of the death penalty. 🤔

In 2024 alone, 9 people were executed by the Singapore government. We, the citizens, need to fundamentally re-evaluate our approach to drugs in our country, starting with the abolition of the death penalty. 🙅

Three months ago, we commemorated the world day against the death penalty through a series of events. Our struggle is a collective one — together, we free them, and free ourselves. 🕊

When does the death penalty apply? Why did Singapore introduce it for drug offences? What's life really like for people on death row?

In this post, we explore the first section of Talking About the Death Penalty, TJC's resource guide designed to help you learn more about the death penalty, challenge misconceptions, and spark meaningful conversations with others.

In our next post, we'll tackle the big question: "Is the death penalty effective?" Stay tuned!

Shanmugam said what?!

According to the minister, without the death penalty in Singapore, drug trafficking will soar, along with more robberies, house-breaking, and sexual assaults.

We showed this clip to attendees at our World Day Against the Death Penalty events in October—and their reaction was loud and clear: Where’s the evidence?

As the year comes to a close, we present to you TJC's 2024 wrapped! 🌀

While the state made this year our POFMA era, more and more of you showed up in solidarity to create and imagine a gentler future together. In this year alone, we saw nine executions — nine too many. As we enter 2025, will you join us in this fight for liberation, democracy, and support? 🫵
