We mourn the passing of Boris Marte
Boris Marte (1964–2026) was a visionary figure who spent many years working in Austrian cultural policy before joining ERSTE Bank’s sponsorship department. In this role, he played a crucial part in establishing the @tranzitorg network and remained a dedicated advocate for its existence and development over many years. He was also instrumental in building the ERSTE Foundation, which has made countless important cultural, educational and social initiatives possible.

The international art world has lost an exceptional advocate and a committed supporter of art and culture. We deeply miss him. by @tranzitiasi

Tomorrow, 2 October, we open Postcards from Mars by Cristina David at tranzit.ro/ Iași 🔴✉️

For the first time in Romania as an exhibition: the complete videos Cristina David livestreamed from Iceland in autumn 2015, before Facebook Live existed. The show brings together 32 stampless "video postcards" and Footage of a Thought, long streams that turn footage into something happening right now.

Artist talk with Cristina David at 16:00

1+1 and tranzit ro/ Iași present, for the first time in Romania and in exhibition format, the complete video works created by Cristina David within Artists as Agents of Institutional Exchange (2015), a joint initiative of tranzit ro/ Iași and Skaftfell Art Center, Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland.

In October 2015, from a fjord in East Iceland, Cristina David livestreamed 32 video postcards from "Mars" and 8 long transmissions of a thought — before Facebook Live even existed for a page like ours. Eleven years later, we retrieve them from the sediment of the internet.

Part of Imagined Organisations: Practices of Artistic Research Moving Across Semiperipheries, co-organised by 1+1 Association and tranzit ro/ Iași, in partnership with HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design, associated initiative of CAPIm, Oberliht Association, and the Visual Art Doctoral School of UNAGE.

Cultural project co-financed by AFCN.

„Imagined Organisations" și multă recunoștință

- Vinerea trecută s-a petrecut o mare „vânzoleală" la un magazin sătesc falimentat care și-a „redeschis" ușile pentru o zi după mai bine de zece ani.

- în cadrul proiectului Imagined Organisations.Practices of Artistic Research Moving Across Semiperipheries. Chisinau & Iasi, organizat de tranzit.ro/Iași și 1+1, la Măcărești a fost expus studiul pentru lucrarea de master “Caietul de datorii”

- În altă ordine de idei, o primă etapă de câteva luni de lucru a luat „sfârșit" la Măcărești, fix la magazinul din sat - acolo unde cândva a fost început (scris) caietul de datorii care stă la baza lucrării mele de master la @_a_m_t_a_p_._md

Despre lucrurile mici dar care sunt mega prețioase:

acest eveniment a fost pregătit cu foarte multe forțe proprii și aici vreau să menționez:
o seamă de prieteni care m-au susținut și ajutat constant lucru pentru care le sunt extrem de recunoscător 🧡
profesorii și conducătorii facultății de arte plastice, pentru că m-au răbdat și mă rabdă🙃
proprietarul magazinului pentru deschidere și consătenilor activi din Măcărești, pentru că au mers în întâmpinare ☀

15:30 — Olja Triaška Stefanović, Practices of Nearness. When does a park become an archive? When does a student magazine become an organisation? Beginning from Friendship Park in Belgrade and Solidarnost, a magazine made by students from Non-Aligned countries studying in Zagreb — artistic research as a practice of nearness, reconnecting places, memories and political geographies.

16:30 — Vitalie Sprînceană, Social movements as laboratories for political education in [Republic of] Moldova. We receive no political education — not in schools, not in families, not at work — and are then expected to make informed political choices as adults. What if movements are where that education actually happens?

17:30 — Matei Bejenaru, The Periferic Biennial, Then and Now. On the biennial that built an internationally connected art scene in Iași across the 1990s and 2000s — and on what its ideas about the form and function of art can still mean in a conservative and retrograde political context.

19:00 — Dan Acostioaei, Prayer for the strengthening of the unseen borders. A performative pseudo-liturgy borrowing the language, rhythms and rhetoric of religious prayer, to look at how collective identities get produced, naturalised and made sacred: myth-making, the construction of enemies, selective memory, the cult of symbols.

Day 3 was spent mostly on a bus, with one long stop.

Măcărești, Ungheni district: Victor Ciobanu, Study for The Book of Debts.

A "book of debts" is a notebook in which a village shopkeeper records what customers can't pay for — usually bread. The practice exists in almost every village shop in Moldova, where money arrives seasonally, or with remittances and pensions. Ciobanu's comes from the shop in his own village, where his parents sent him for groceries between 1987 and 1990.

He scanned the notebook, then wove it — a hand-woven wool tapestry, 100 × 100 cm, half a page..
