There weren’t a lot of African American chefs in my time coming up. This one’s been a long time coming. There were plenty of days along the way when I wondered if this idea would find its home, and it did, right here in Logan Square. Alongside my partner @tredicjr , I’m beyond thrilled to say the dream is real. Hooligan officially opens its doors this Thursday, October 1. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who helped get us here.

THE BUZZ IS BUILDING as our very own @chefchristianhunter and @tredicjr prepare to open doors to @hooligan.chicago, a “Third Coast Contemporary” bistro.

It’s already shaping up to be one of the nation’s most anticipated openings this fall, racking up big-time attention and headlines as one-to-watch in @bonappetitmag, @robbreport, and @eater National, plus here in Chicago from @secret.chicago and @crainschicago.

I recently completed my first DEKA FIT.

Before the race, my wife passed along a message from my younger brother:

“Tell Tyrone, don’t stop when you’re tired. Stop when you’re finished.”

That stayed with me, not only during the race, but long after it.

Being tired does not always mean you are done. Sometimes it simply means you have reached the point where discipline, faith, and perseverance must take over from motivation.

There will always be moments when the work feels heavier, the outcome feels uncertain, and stopping feels easier than continuing.

But tired is a feeling.

Finished is a decision.

And through it all, I hold tightly to the belief that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

Even the difficult moments. Even the uncertainty. Even the seasons that test our endurance.

I am learning to trust the process, remain faithful to the work, and respect the difference between being tired and being finished.

This past weekend, I completed my first @deka.fit race in Chicago, and it felt great to be back out there competing.

One of the things I love most about training for events like this is what they teach beyond fitness. Endurance isn’t just physical, it’s mental. It’s showing up consistently, trusting the process, and continuing to move forward when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

Yesterday, I came across a quote that perfectly captured what I’ve been feeling:

“I am convinced that 99% of success is just the ability to outlast uncertainty. The one who can tolerate the most uncertainty will eventually win.”

That idea extends far beyond racing. Whether you’re training for an event, building a business, pursuing a career, or chasing a dream, uncertainty is part of the journey. The people who keep showing up, stay patient, and refuse to quit often find themselves exactly where they hoped to be.

Keep going. Outlast the uncertainty.

“In service.”

This Memorial Day, I’m reflecting on what service really means.

Today we honor those who gave their lives in service to something greater than themselves. Their sacrifice deserves our deepest gratitude and respect.

It also reminds me that all of us are in service to something: our families, teams, communities, and the people we care for each day.

At its best, service isn’t transactional. It’s stewardship, responsibility, and making people feel seen and valued.

The world is better when we lead and live through that lens. by @tredicjr

Mastery, not talent.

My path was a little bit different.

I didn’t learn this in a classroom.
I learned it in the work.

Same lesson this morning—7 miles in.
Pace, breath, form.
Immediate feedback. No shortcuts.

That’s how I was trained in restaurants.
That’s how I train now.

Late nights. Repetition.
Standards that don’t move.

Talent gets attention.
Mastery gets results.
