Bench time, in its most honest form.

This video shows the work most pieces pass through: sawing with a jewelers saw (I love my @greenlionsawframe), sanding, grinding, and swapping tools constantly with a quick-change flex shaft handpiece. Small setup choices matter more than people think. Good lighting, efficient tool changes, and tools that feel good in the hand all shape the work.

For metalsmiths and students: what’s the one bench upgrade that changed your workflow the most?

After being a backburner project on my bench for a while, this piece is finally done! 3 amethysts set in sterling silver. WHEW! I'd love to say more about it, but I'm gonna get back to work now.

The Silver Gnostic Vessel — a unique and functional piece made with friendship, meaning, and heirloom quality in mind.

Every element began as hand-carved wax, then was brought to life through the lost wax casting process and painstakingly assembled. Its substantial silver form features a hinged, latching lid, making it both sculptural and functional.

The antler base was masterfully carved by Jeremy Hawkins, grounding the vessel in organic texture. At its heart rests a ruby cabochon with zoisite — a deep pulse of color and symbolism.

One of a kind. Never to be reproduced. This piece is currently in a private collection.

One last shot of this engraved cuff. When I was first practicing this engraving style, I was not a very big fan of it, but the more I cut it and the more I see it, the more it grows on me. This pattern dates back to the earliest days of firearm engraving, and things like that always carry a little extra weight, like the historical application makes it that much more intimidating to approach it.

This cuff is a forged brass bangle/cuff. Brass tends to break and shear off when hammered, so this had to be worked hot and stretched around a mandrel while it was red-hot. After that, the metal is pretty scorched, so you have to take your time to clean it up and polish before starting in on the engraving. All the layout had to be done by hand, since there is no pre-existing patterns for a tapering surface like this.

This design was totally derived from my time at @grstools learning from the inimitable @todddanielsdesigns. by @trevor.twist

Here's a little detail shot of a recent cuff I made! As you can see, I've been practicing engraving quite a lot, trying to keep my skills sharp (just like my gravers!) This cuff is in brass, first shaped from a red-hot brass rod, and then prepped and engraved! Brass can be kinda tricky to shape like this because mostly, especially when it comes to rod like this, it will just break when you hammer on it!

Anyways, thanks for checking it out! Let's engrave something for you! What are your ideas?

Hey check out this cuff bracelet!

This pattern is called running wheat and is one of many patterns I have been practicing to beef up my engraving skills. The engraving I do falls somewhere towards the high-tech end of handgraving. Everything is by hand, and hand controlled, but with the assistance of a pneumatic handpiece, that slowly taps to allow you to focus on control and not just hand-pressure. If you interested in engraving, let's be friends! If you're a maker looking to add some engraved embellishments to you work, let's connect!

Last post for this pendant for Baby Boogie! This tooth you see here is a puppy tooth from the late, great Boogie. My close friend and I designed this custom piece of mourning jewelry, which would ultimately go to her partner during their grieving of the loss of their beloved dog.

This piece was made totally from recycled gold, meaning I melted it down, rolled it out and made it fully from scratch, but that the piece is able to maintain some sentimental value from material held in the family.

If you are grieving something, be it a pet or loved one, and want a custom made piece to remember, commemorate and celebrate them, please reach out! I love to work on these deeply personal pieces.

Hello again friends!

Here's the front side of a pendant I recently made custom for a close friend. After a brutal battle with cancer, she lost her most beloved animal companion, Boogie. We spent a long time figuring out exactly what she wanted to do with a couple of teeth she had from him after his passing and really wanted something special for her and her partner to remember their beloved pup.

Voila! Here's the front. Here you can see the puppy tooth, bezel set in 14k yellow gold in a dainty heart to be worn as a pendant. We put in some special touches, such as star setting a ruby on the back to make it part of a series with some other jewelry.

In this process I learned a little more about how taxidermists seal and archive bones in such a way that they won't deteriorate.

Hope you're enjoying this series of pics. If you have a pet or loved one that you would like to create a memorial/mourning piece for, please get ahold of me! I'd love to do more of this sort of custom work with you!

I'm reposting this pic again, because, frankly, I screwed up my 3 panel spread thing I am trying to do. ;D

That said, if you are seeing this one for the first time, thanks for being here! This is the backside of a memorial piece/mourning jewelry I made for the passing of Boogie, a friend's lovely, handsome pupster who recently passed away after a tough as hell battle with cancer.

We worked on the details of this custom piece together before bringing it to life: 14k yellow gold heart pendant, with a ruby star set in the back. How is this a memorial piece, you're wondering? Well, my friend had a puppy tooth she wanted to incorporate. Next post I'll get to the front!

Every detail on this piece was made from scratch, from melting the gold down, making a sheet, wire, and bezel.

Are you interested in a piece of mourning jewelry? I'm interested in making more work in this collection: we're talking hair or teeth made into a custom piece full of meaning. Let me know if you're interested.

Here's the reveal. This is what the wearer carries against their skin, five acorns on an oak branch, two oak leaves above, all hand engraved into the back plate. Blackened background makes every line stand out.

The back is just for the wearer.

The lesson of the oak tree is a reminder that growth happens in the quiet places and before you know it the acorn becomes the sapling becomes the tree. A mighty oak doesn't sink its roots deep into the earth overnight. Hopefully this work is a reminder to carry the forest with you, even when no one else can see it.

This piece is one-of-a-kind. The stone cannot be sourced again.

Go get it over at @cozylittleheartshop while it's still in stock, and check out their collection of awesome handmade art, much of which is wearable.

Here's one more view to catch the contrasting highlights and darkened recesses.

Tibetan turquoise, the malachite twins, the oak leaves reaching outward, the triskelion anchoring it all. Handcrafted in sterling silver with blackened recesses. This piece seemed to almost create itself.

The back of this piece is probably my favorite part. Can you guess what's back there? If you already saw this piece in my stories, don't give it away. ;)

This piece is one-of-a-kind. When it's gone, it's gone, and it's only available at Cozy Little Heart Shop! Go check them out and see some dope hand made art. @cozylittleheartshop

I recently made this one of a kind pendant, never to be reproduced, which is currently only available through my friends over at @cozylittleheartshop

This one-of-a-kind pendant came to life around a singular Tibetan turquoise stone. On it's own there is nothing terribly significant about this piece, it's not expensive or singularly beautiful. It is light brown with whispers of green and sea. What makes it so cool, I guess, is just its origin. I love that this stone can be sourced in just a few places around the world. Flanked by malachite, framed in sterling with oak leaves and a triskelion calling to the old ways of the druids. A weird mix for a Tibetan stone I guess, but this piece just made me think of acorns and making a basket out of the front of my shirt to collect them by the tens.

The oak stands tall and its roots run deep.

This piece will only exist this once. When it finds its person, that's the end of this story.

Wait until you see the back of this piece, I'll post more about it soon.
