07 PERSPECTIVE - Turned my own hand drawn graphics into an animated short using Illustrator and After Effects.

No AI on this one, felt like making something a little more organic and wanted to focus on perspectives, line art and camera movement. Really got me excited about the possibilities of mixing 2D animations with 3D environments.

Last painting I did and the last painting I’ll probably do for a while.

My brother @jonathan_afterdark introduced me to Takeoff a few years ago in LA and he was one of the kindest, most genuine humans I ever had to pleasure to meet.

@amir_coughcough and I flew coast to coast working on different projects with him, smoking out hotel rooms and watching music videos while I designed shit on my laptop at 3 in the morning.

The last time I saw him we were slamming chicken and waffles at the Four Seasons just a couple of blocks away from my apartment in Houston.

I don’t really know how to deal with loss; I just paint and hyper focus on work. Jonathan was Takeoff’s assistant and one of his closest friends, so I went back to the hotel with a canvas and we made this in his room the next day.

We miss you Take. Thank you for everything.

We've been pretty quiet about the work we've been doing over this last year, but for those of you who don't know - here's a little bit of what @amir_coughcough and I have been up to.

Extremely grateful to be able to do projects like these, and none of it would be possible without our friends putting us on and hyping us up wherever they go (shoutout @jonathan_afterdark - the king of networking). And of course, @ayy_mercado with all of the Tico Lingo videography & art direction. He literally made an inspirational movie out of this ad campaign with the smallest of budgets, and is one of the most creative people I've ever met.

I don't want to take the spotlight away from anything else that's going on right now, but for those of you who are wondering, this is what we do. If you have any civil rights projects or initiatives you need help with, we're doing what we can to help where we can - just shoot me a DM.

Also, gotta shout out @tylermathewsuggs and @amir_coughcough for the backtrack. Finally put it to good use. by @trevorpolk

Frank Ocean is the epitome of a true artist. Even the way he releases and markets his music is so inventive and expressive. Each project feels like a coherent piece of work, like he incapsulates an entire catalog of emotions in each album. He tells stories and paints scenes that resonate at different levels.
I finally got around to taking some pictures of this one, but I think I finished it back in like December/January.
Haven’t been painting much during quarantine surprisingly - but I’ve been working on some other projects that I hope I get to share with everyone at some point soon. Good things are happening, I’m surrounded by people I love and I’m working with people and artists that fulfill my passions. I’m fucking happy, and I guess I paint more when I’m not lol. by @trevorpolk

Finished this painting a little while ago and never got around to sharing it with y’all.
@future is an artist that I really didn’t resonate with until this last year. He has this aura of composure despite all of his vices. While his music vividly portrays an inner battle with fame and drugs, on the outside he always seems calm and in control.

I’ve always struggled to handle situations with equanimity, but it’s something I’ve been working on a lot lately.

Not sure how many of these I’m going to do, but Travis had an ASTROnomical year and is by far one of my favorite artists. I wrote about his Owl Pharaoh mixtape on UH back in 2013, and kept up with him as he continued to climb charts and transcend genres.
The energy that Travis brings to his live shows is something that can’t be explained, it needs to be experienced.
Anyways, 36” x 48” canvas that was half off at Michaels, dollar store acrylic paint, old sharpie paint pens, some gold spray paint that I found in my closet, and roughly a gallon of water.. Literally like $30 in supplies

Anyone who knows me knows that I never sell my paintings, but I still might sell some prints if anyone needs some wall art. 📷|@lohkibeats by @trevorpolk
