This summer we needed another black Martin guitar for Once at Saugatuck Center for the Arts, and I offered to go in with the theatre to buy one. (I've always wanted a Martin.) Kurt Stamm wouldn't hear of it and gave it to me, which is about as generous as it gets. Zack Zaromatidis played it every night as Guy, and this weekend, he played it again when I directed an industry reading of Rathskeller, a new musical. With him in the cast was Gina Milo, an SCA favorite who played the Witch in Kurt’s Into the Woods this summer. His gift helped three SCA artists create something new together. Thank you, Kurt, for a gift that's already paying it forward!

Once again up the hill! What a fun birthday: Spending it having our first rehearsal of Once at The Forestburgh Playhouse. Very lucky to be spending a birthday getting another opportunity to work on this beautiful show. Thrilled to be doing it with this group and immersively in Forestburgh's Tavern. Doing your favorite show Once, twice in one summer. What a friggin' bday gift. taken in Forestburgh Playhouse by @treycompton

It's hard for me to say I'm proud of my own work. I'm always proud of the cast, the collaborators, the show. But this one...I'm really proud of.

They have another week. If you're in the Michigan area, check it out.

I cannot begin to describe how beautifully soul-shaking this one was, or how much of an honor it's been to spend the last month with these humans doing this show. Thank you, @jkurtstamm for what you've built, fostered, and continue to grow in this insanely special place. And for the (once in a lifetime) opportunity to do my favorite show in my favorite place. Thanks to this incredible crew and team of designers, and to this cast, who both uplifts this thing higher than I could ever have imagined and who breaks my heart every day. We take on the beautiful burden and absolute privilege of being the first production of Once to open since Glen Hansard passed last week. I'm so very thankful that this group has the opportunity and duty of sharing his incredible music for the next month. We miss him, honor him, and celebrate him tonight and always.
