Land is everything. More than a century after ancestral Kenya was under British colonial rule, generations of Kikuyu families are still living with the consequences. In KIKUYU LAND, Nairobi-based journalist Bea Wangondu sets out to investigate the exploitation tea industry workers continue to face. As she presses corporations and government officials for answers, her search for the truth takes an unexpectedly personal turn. Playing in select UK & Ireland cinemas starting 2 October. Coming soon to the US. by @trifilm

Saturday at Sundance has been filled with beautiful discussions with the creative community. The Kikuyu Land team has been showing up across the festival: on stages, amongst panels, and immersed in conversation. “How can we have full gratitude for this moment in time, and build together towards a future that we know is possible? And I believe storytelling is key to that” - @tracyrectorart taken in Sundance Film Festival by @trifilm

Over the past three years, Trifilm has been collaborating with filmmakers @andrewhbrown , @beawangondu , and producer @bwayomoses (Director of Oscar nominated Bobi Wine: The People’s President”) to create the feature length documentary film KIKUYU LAND. We’re incredibly excited to announce today that KIKUYU LAND has been selected for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Documentary Competition – where it will also have its World Premiere. Thank you to the team at @sundanceorg for this incredible honor.  It’s truly been a special creative journey, and we are deeply grateful to our teammates on the project for sharing their talents – and to @beawangondu for sharing her story. More in the weeks ahead as we prepare to head to Park City! About the film: When Kenyan based journalist Bea Wangondu returns to her ancestral homeland, a familiar landscape becomes a map of long-suppressed stories: tea fields hiding contested histories, families carrying untold wounds, and a community bound by both loss and unshakable resolve.   Guided by voices that move in the shadows for their own safety, Bea uncovers decades of hidden evidence and a conflict that has shaped the lives of workers, community members and landowners alike. As she follows the community’s pursuit of justice, her own family’s past begins to shift beneath her, revealing fractures she never expected.   Part investigation, part homecoming, Kikuyu Land is a poetic journey through memory, land and legacy.   #SundanceFilmFestival taken in Sundance Film Festival by @trifilm
