Happy Thanksgiving Weekend 🇨🇦

We are well doused with snow, it is not too chilly and it won't last as we anticipate mid teens this upcoming week.

It is beautiful and a little nod to what is to come. We still have so much to do! Never enough time.

We moved the flock to a new area. Checked cows and their waterer, neither are loving the weather but there's still grass to forage for!

I wish the days had more time to spend doing exactly this. Moving to fresh grass.

Moving critters, whether cows, sheep or goats, amidst the sunset and green forages. Where you're feeling the cool air pockets amidst warmth of the day as you walk through the dips. To enjoy working alongside animals, both the grazers and the motivators. To see the excitement to nibble on fresh grasses or the bouncing energy to go to herding. To smell the smells and hear the sounds. (Ahem... though not the ones of my bickering kids)

Here's to holding onto the grazing days as we make our way towards a season that holds its own beauty even against frigid backdrops.

Headed to the next piece to chow down

Fall moves have one of the prettiest back drops to be sure. The leaves are still hanging on and showing their stunning colors!

You can't quite see her but Dot is the sheep motivator bringing them up. She matches these autumn colors with her red Collie coat!

The sheep are grazing different areas and though they have yet to munch this piece, you knew they would have much preferred the nice green hay pasture that they got to snack on while we moved all the fence over!

Here's to hoping for a long fall grazing season for all the critters ❤️ ... and no Elk rearranging my fence 😏

My sheep aren't supposed to be there...

Elk are in full rut and apparently living their best life which means they gave our fence a hook and quite literally ripped a chunk apart. I found it out in the middle of the field! Probably got a good zap and the bull took off with some antler decor. Guess he didn't think much of it and dropped it a few hundred feet away.

The flock was at a grazing lease all summer and fences stayed intact, bring em home and thats where they get wrecked 🤦‍♀️

With that being said... elk are truly a majestic creature. I love seeing them. Albeit frustrating the damage they can cause... But their bugles are the coolest sound, even at wee hours in the morning! And... they are some of the best tablefare.

The flock is back home ❤️

It was a chilly and somewhat soggy morning for a move but the ewes were keen to hustle home, they may have even went there all on their own! They get to munch on some hay while we get all the mesh fence home and new paddocks set up.

Where they were is beautiful and full of the stunning autumn colors but it pairs with a high pressure from predators. I'm happy to have them back close for a bit of relief from worry.

Now weaning is next on the docket. The mamas get to enjoy some time lamb free before they go for their romantic engagement mid November 😉

The season signals a shift for the ranch and for the pace of life.

We're still in the woods, grazing the grasses and forbs amidst tall poplar trees. Where the wild shows its face more, challenges the dogs but eases back into the quiet as morning arises.

The frost clings to the blades of grass, glittering as the morning light glows. The air is both icy and yet the warmth begins to drift over as the day starts.

The leaves are changing to orange and brown on the trees but the lower lying bushes produce the stunning deep reds, oranges and yellows that litter the forest floor.

The flock just grazes and enjoys the fleeting greenery of 2026, I am blessed to greet them as the sun rises and sets. To take in the quiet and tranquility that is undisturbed places.

Here's to a beautiful Friday with fall bring us some warm days ahead 🍂❤️

September is here and one can really feel autumn 🍂 in the air, see the leaves changing color, grasses headed out and colder morning greetings.

The flock is sheared now and they'll grow their woolly coats back in the days ahead as we look toward old man winter.

We'll keep grazing as long as we can and soak up as much of the season that we can!
