I have made $0 in 6 months, selling a home we can no longer afford, have had negative things said about me and my art, felt hated and small, had weekly breakdowns about paying bills, worked everyday, and last week had to clean up human poop on SFs doorstep. But what I have also had over 6 months are hilarious conversations, regulars who have become friends, mum washing SF tea towels, sister making pate, Mitch-Tess-Fig rolling in at 7:15am with 30 minutes notice, Chris and Marina buying Tshirts they clearly don’t need because he still has his piano cat shirt from 20 years ago, my friends who have better coffee spots than me coming to get coffee from me anyway, Andrew baking tarts, Ellie making the shop smell like Aesop, Sammy making samifreddos, Susan dropping in to replace sad plants, Ocky and Flower bringing in family, Mango’s review, Geos pistachio cake, Nate thinking before I do, Cino squealing down the street, Tom stealing red frogs, Liam making a video I haven’t used because I keep forgetting, Tori always buying Banana Matcha even though we have ok matcha, Toby sneaking into the kitchen, introducing Ian and George to marketplace and stealing their address and phone number, realising lawyers are people and making connections just in case, and I could go on and on about the good. First photo is of us celebrating Tommy’s 100 days sober. Today he is 5 years sober. People often assume it was for me, but he did it for himself and the life he wanted. I am very proud of him and grateful for the ones who have done it before him, it has helped him stay on track and remember there is a way out.
