The length of the shorts has absolutely nothing to do with it. 😂

Today’s run was less about training and more about checking in with myself.

I’ve been giving myself some space to process everything lately, and I wanted to see where I was at mentally.

No expectations about how I should feel. Just an opportunity to get outside, move, and see what comes up.

Still figuring things out, and that’s okay.

Things I’m learning this week.

I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on the St. George Marathon, and I wish I could say I’ve come away feeling better about it.

But I haven’t.

I’ve had a lot of people remind me that I finished, and I genuinely appreciate the encouragement and enthusiasm. I know it comes from a good place, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s celebrated that accomplishment with me.

But finishing wasn’t really the part I was struggling with.

I think sometimes we get so caught up in celebrating the accomplishment that we forget to acknowledge the experience. And this one was hard in ways that had very little to do with the miles.

I know I’ll keep running. That part isn’t really in question.

But I’m realizing I might need a little distance from racing for a while. I still have one more race at the end of the month, and Run Club isn’t going anywhere. But I don’t see myself signing up for anything new anytime soon.

Maybe I’ll start looking for smaller races. Events without all the hype and expectations. Maybe I’ll just run because I feel like running.

I don’t really know.

What I do know is that I miss the simplicity of it. Getting out, moving, and enjoying the experience without feeling like it needs to become something more.

I don’t think I’ve lost my love for running. I think I’m just trying to figure out how to enjoy it again.

And maybe that’s one of the things I’m learning this week.

St. George Marathon 2026.

Well, that was something. 😂

I have very little photographic evidence that I actually ran this marathon, so you’ll mostly have to take my word for it.

This year felt different from the beginning. I signed up after my running group, which meant an earlier shuttle and a different race morning. I stayed with my brothers, which was fun! Weston wasn’t at the finish because I’d told him he didn’t need to come. But I was grateful to have my parents, family, and friends waiting there.

Then came the actual race.

The heat was brutal, my body struggled, and mentally I was having an even harder time. It became my slowest marathon.

At one point, I looked around and genuinely wanted to quit running altogether. Not just the race. Running.

Almost a week later, part of me still feels that way.

But during those final five miles, I met Chad.

Chad was running in memory of his son, Wyatt, who died by suicide. Wyatt loved running, and Chad continues honoring him through Run for Wyatt.

As someone who has survived a suicide attempt myself, our conversation meant a lot. I’m also the second oldest son in my family, and hearing his story reminded me how grateful I am to still be here.

Chad’s company helped me through those final miles, and eventually I crossed the finish line.

I’d love to say finishing reminded me why I love running and made everything feel worth it.

But it didn’t.

I’ve spent nearly a decade running, and it’s given me some incredible experiences. Right now, though, I’m questioning what I want my relationship with running to look like.

Maybe I need rest. Maybe something needs to change. I honestly don’t know.

I’m grateful for the people who showed up, the connections made along the way, and another 26.2 miles.

Even if this one wasn’t particularly enjoyable.

Running Collective check-in. 👇

What are we working toward right now?

And yes, “I’m just trying to keep running consistently” absolutely counts as a goal.

Drop your letter (or your actual goal) below. Then find someone working toward the same thing and hype them up.

Road, trail, fast, slow, brand new, been doing this forever. There’s room for all of us here.

I’m curious where everyone is at right now.

On October 3rd, I ran the St. George Marathon.

And that’s about as much processing as we’re doing right now. 😂

Full race update to come, but for now I’ll just say this one was tough.

26.2 is done. More thoughts once my brain and body have had a chance to figure out what just happened.

For the record, I stand by the life advice I’ve given.

But I should probably disclose that I’m also the kind of person who thinks running is the answer to most things.

Bad day? Run.
Need to think? Run.
Need to stop thinking? Run.
Questioning your life choices? Run far enough and you’ll have entirely new ones to question.

So yes, I’ll always say running is the answer.

Whether that strengthens or completely destroys my credibility is up to you. 😂

Consider this your warning.

I’m not going to tell you running is always fun. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes the weather sucks. Sometimes a “relaxing trail run” involves several thousand feet of climbing and questioning every decision that brought you there.

I also won’t pretend running an ultra was some effortless magical experience. I hurt, cried, considered dropping, ate an unreasonable amount of candy and spent hours covered in mud.

And I will STILL tell you it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. 😂

So yeah… probably don’t bring up running around me unless you have some time.

Went to St. George with the in-laws this weekend and apparently even heading back to the car can turn competitive. 😂

Nay had a pretty good lead on me, started taking off down the trail, and obviously there was only one reasonable response: chase him.

And if you look in the background, all the kids are running down the trail too. Apparently nobody in this family knows how to just casually walk somewhere.

There’s something really fun about being able to just take off and move like this for absolutely no reason other than because you can.

Nobody officially declared a race, but runners know the rules.

Physically, I’ve felt surprisingly great all week.

Mentally, I have the processing speed of a laptop from 2003. 😂

So here’s some footage reminding me that somewhere in the middle of running 31.5ish miles, climbing 6,800ish feet, crying, eating candy, and fighting for my life in the mud… I was actually in a REALLY beautiful place.

Glad past me documented it because current me is still buffering.

My body is requesting PTO.

Unfortunately, management checked the calendar and St. George Marathon is October 3. 😂

So we’re recovering, taking it easy, and gently reminding the legs that they have one more job to do.

Who put a marathon 13 days after a 50K?

…don’t answer that.

Gasping Through the Aspens photo dump ⛰️

This race was tough. Somewhere in the second half my back started fighting me, there were a few miles where I genuinely wasn’t sure I was going to finish, and there may have been some crying in the mud. 😂 But I kept moving and eventually made it across that finish line.

Outside of my own little mid-race crisis, this course was incredible. Beautiful trails, aspens everywhere, plenty of climbing, ridiculous amounts of mud and some seriously gorgeous views. And the temperature? Pretty much perfect running weather.

31.5ish miles and 6,800ish feet later, I can definitely say Gasping Through the Aspens lived up to its name.

Hard race. Beautiful course. Awesome experience.

Very glad I did it. Also very glad I don’t have to do it again tomorrow. 😂
