September plans in Grand Rapids are officially looking good. 📍

I rounded up the local happenings, places worth adding to your list, and a few things that deserve a spot on your calendar this month—think ArtPrize downtown, a stroll through the Fulton Street Farmers Market, and patio season at its absolute peak.

Consider this your shortcut to figuring out what to do when the group chat hits you with, “Any plans this weekend?”

Save this one for later and send it to your favorite person to explore Grand Rapids with.

I’m @carriejlewis_realtor, a Grand Rapids local and real estate agent sharing the best of life here. Follow for more local recs (and a little Grand Rapids, Michigan real estate along the way).

Hot, loud, full week, this is what summer is supposed to feel like.

Our first Summer Experience Week gave the girls a little bit of everything, go-karts, bumper cars, laser tag, movie day, a private luncheon, boating safety, pool time, ice cream, and a lot of moments they’ll probably be talking about for a while.

We started the week at Craig’s Cruisers, slowed things down with a movie day when the heat and air quality warnings hit, and had some real conversations along the way about friendship, balance, and screen time.

Midweek, the girls got to experience a private five-course luncheon at TrustGR with Chef Trimell and Chef Jaysin, where they learned about etiquette, tried something new, and got treated with the kind of care they deserve.

Later in the week, Sam Mickens, Jr. led hands-on boating and water safety instruction, giving the girls real skills and confidence they can carry with them beyond the summer.

And we closed it all out at the MLK pool, which felt like the exact kind of ending the week needed, sunshine, swimming, laughter, and a little bit of chaos in the best way.

A huge thank you to the people and partners who helped make this week happen:

@naacpgr , for making sure the girls had transportation all week.

@trust_GR , for hosting such a thoughtful and beautiful luncheon.

@cheftrimell and @jaysin.mise , for creating an experience the girls won’t forget.

@sammickensjr , for teaching boating and water safety with so much care.

Board President @scalesk and The Delta Project Board, for your leadership and support.

@coachbignik , for continuing to show up for our youth with heart.

We’re grateful for every person who helped bring this week to life, and even more grateful that our girls got to experience it.

Our hearts (and bellies) are full of gratitude for Chef Trimell of @trust_gr for an evening of deep connection and incredible flavor at our most recent Farm to Table Dinner. We are still dreaming about that curly corn!

Thank you, Chef Trimell, for crafting a meal full of care and heart. And thank you to each and every guest, donor and sponsor who believe in this critical work and invest in these experiences that bring people together while supporting the future of West Michigan.

People always ask me, “But where would you wear that?”
You know… that cute outfit, the fun jacket, the little statement piece we found while shopping.

And honestly? My answer is always: ANYWHERE!!!

Grand Rapids has so many fun spots to explore, and last Friday night was the perfect reminder. Grabbed a couple friends, saw Devil Wears Prada 2 (so good!!), then headed to @tellerslounge where they created and named a custom drink just for us. After that, we ended the night at @trust_gr for an incredible chef’s menu experience.

So here’s your reminder:
Wear the outfit.
Try the new restaurant.
Meet the bartenders, owners, and people behind these amazing local spots.
Get out and experience Grand Rapids with confidence and a little style. 🔥 taken in Trust GR by @trust_gr

When the girl chat has incredible random weeknight dining experiences that most people save for anniversaries or special occasions… why it’s so hard to date us 🤣

Check out @trust_gr … they were amazing to accommodate any special dietary restrictions and I definitely recommend the Chef’s Table experience. 🫛🍵🫘🦞🥗🥩🍨

@cheftrimell and team were the best. 10/10 would go again. (The Tea Party course was my fave but all were stunningggg)

West MI friends, have you been yet?! What did you think? And anyone planning a random date night… go here! 🥰 taken in Grand Rapids, Michigan by @trust_gr

Last week, we at The Delta Project had the incredible opportunity to learn from Chef Trimell Hawkins and his team, who graciously hosted several of our mentees and staff for a five-course dining experience at his restaurant, Trust GR. The evening was not only delicious, but deeply educational, offering hands-on guidance in dinner etiquette along the way.

Chef Trimell’s team walked us through each course, explaining the dishes, the proper use of utensils and table accessories, and the rich history behind the dining experience itself. Beyond the meal, Chef and his team also shared pieces of their life journeys, creating space for meaningful conversation and connection with the mentees we serve. It was a powerful and memorable evening, and we are deeply grateful to Chef Trimell and his team for such a beautiful and inspiring experience.

Side note: We’re so glad we had this experience before his grand opening, because he is booked!!! taken in Grand Rapids, Michigan by @trust_gr
