Every man deep down wants freedom from his vices and willingness to speak the truth.

2 years ago, I backpacked up San Jacinto Peak in CA with my dad, @americanriflecraft, and another dear friend. We went up to honor my mom who had passed away just a few months earlier. She loved that hike (and all hikes). I had done it with her years earlier as mother and son.

If you all enjoy TTF, you’ll have to thank my mom for that, since she was the one who fostered my interest in the outdoors and encouraged us to make a genuine impact onto others. She would say things like “if you have a positive thought about someone, make sure you say it to them, don’t let those opportunities be wasted. They will be more impacted than you’ll likely know.”

The whole point of this channel isn’t to “become the best”. I started it because her death inspired me to start something that could blend adventure, intense passion, and sharing the resurrection and character of Jesus Christ. When she passed away, I frankly had nothing to lose and decided to go for it. It’s also why I only care about using this platform to be genuine and honest. I’ve experienced the worst things in life, it doesn’t matter if a random observer or company doesn’t like me lol.

I’m so thankful for the three men that I love who went up with me on that 48 hour backpacking trip as well. Camping 8 miles up and enjoying the sunset is something I’ll remember when I too pass away. This is the character of genuine men. We set up our bivys, ate MREs, and laughed that night. I’ll have more to say about the trip and how we planned / packed for it. But that’s for another day and video. Hold onto your loved ones closely and don’t assume you have years ahead of you to do what you care most about. taken in San Jacinto Peak by @truththenfreedom

I learned two things this weekend: The G$ 14.5 Super Duty has no problem reaching 800 yards, and you can’t neglect your pistol skills then expect to have a top performance. 📸 @zezzyflex taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

Distance stage from yesterday’s @fastmatches. You had four minutes (240 seconds) to make as many hits as possible to shave time off your score. 250-500yd = -5sec off your time, 780-900yd= -25sec. This was the last 30 seconds of the stage with a last second impact out at 780 yards. Used PMC 55gr provided by @ammo_squared on all stages including this one. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

What if we just stopped trying to turn gas guns into bolt guns, and instead simply threw a scope on an accurized duty rifle? That’s more or less the experiment I’m starting with this Geissele Super Duty.

After spending the better part of two years using an
SPR profile build as a primary rifle, I’ve become more accustomed to what a precision-oriented gas gun can do. I feel this 14.5” Geissele is a slightly different philosophy: a factory built, hard-use duty rifle that is accurate enough to make the most of the platform.

Within the first 100 rounds, the combination of the G$ and I have produced consistent groups around 1.5 MOA with several different loads, including 69gr, 75gr, and 77gr match ammunition. And this is all unsuppressed. I may very well be the limiting factor here keeping it from grouping tighter. With an eventual Hux can, I’d hope it’ll tighten up further.

I’m taking it to the @parma.dmr finale this weekend and @fastmatches next week, so we get to find out what happens when I have to actually play my part, under match conditions. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

I’ve been thinking about this one for a while. Call it cope if you’d like. Hell, I probably fall into much of this category myself. But there is a specific subset of gun owners who live in a completely different firearms ecosystem than the average gun owner. And that’s who you’re often competing and comparing yourself against.

Could be 25–35. Single or few family obligations. Works in the industry. Shoots multiple times a week. Travels for matches. Gets industry pricing or free gear. Has a significant amount of discretionary income. Sure I would imagine many are married, even have kids, or just successful business owners. What’s critical is that shooting isn’t just a hobby, it’s often part of their job.

There’s nothing wrong with any of that. We need this group within the firearms industry. They push equipment harder, identify problems, develop new techniques, compete at a high level, and show the rest of us what is possible.

But when you spend almost all of your time around people who shoot multiple times a week, own specialized rifles for different disciplines, travel across the country for matches, and have access to gear most people would never buy at retail, it becomes very easy for that lifestyle to feel normal.

Then your personal baseline becomes highly unrealistic for your own personal circumstances.

The guy with three kids who shoots a match every 3 months starts feeling like he needs to train like the guy whose job is literally firearms.

The person with a mortgage, kids, work, and 45 minutes of free time on Saturday starts feeling guilty that they aren’t doing enough.

That’s the part I am honing in on. I want folks to train more, invest in good equipment, pursue excellence. But keep this perspective if you feel like you’re behind. Don’t use this as an excuse not to live up to your potential. But a man’s got to know his limitations. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

Time to once again recalibrate & prioritize training over gear. With the growth of this channel, it’s been tempting to lean more into the product evaluation side of the industry. However, ultimately that doesn’t align with the mission of Truth Then Freedom. I’m focused on making better marksmen and sharing the highs and lows of my personal journey along the way.

@ammo_squared is a important part of this re-orientation. Their services will help continuously prioritize training over collecting. They are local to Idaho and Texas, but ship your ammo fast anywhere across the country. I’m looking forward to the upcoming plans we have in the works. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

I feel like this past example of standard deviation and extreme spread visualized would be useful, so I’m sharing it here today. We used the @athlonoptics Rangecraft to gather the data. @americanriflecraft helped create the visual that I narrated, so if you find this useful, give him a follow. Also, we’re no experts, so chime in if there’s any parts of this clip you disagree with and why. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

‘Diving’ head first into the world of WMLRFs. (I’ve never used one). I’ll be sharing all lessons learned along the way. @nightforce_optics RAP-I on the Tikka, @koeng_co low profile diveboard on the gasser. Stay tuned for some fun stuff. Share any advice you got. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

How often are you training mid range without a bag? Inspired by @whiskey_hotel.21 I spent much of this morning focusing on some mock stages with no support bag. It was.. much more difficult. Harder to make first round impacts, slower time overall. But it also exposed some good areas to work on like wobble and position building. Give it a try this month. taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom

I recently received this Manbily tripod and it got me thinking about a lot of questions and ambiguities in the tripod space. I also saw @lethal_corporation is going to be selling BOG tripods which was surprising to see. These are genuine thoughts I’d be curious to hear from others about. We have about 40 different budget Chinese options, a bunch more from companies importing and rebranding them, and then a handful of US made options. It’s easy to point people towards RRS and end the conversation, but can you actually explain why? taken in Idaho, USA by @truththenfreedom
