did anyone else feel like september just flew by?!? i managed to read 3 books this month and even reached my baby reading goal of 25 books this year 🥹 last time i read more than this was back in 2022 right before i started grad school so this a big milestone for me! i also did not read any books from my september hopefuls but maybe i’ll get em next month hahah

none of these were physical books lol so enjoy my canva attempt <3 here are my thoughts on each book:

🧸 atmosphere by TJR - wow! wow! wow! taylor jenkins reid will always be an auto buy author for me but this beginning of this one was losing me. the science jargon and alternating between the timelines made it a little hard for me to get into it, but man oh man! once i got invested into the story, it was so hard to put down. a story about love, ambition, and found family with an ending that will keep you on your toes. can’t recommend enough!

🧸 the other side of now by paige harbison - this was a cute little audiobook! a hollywood actress who suddenly finds herself in an alternate timeline—one where she chose to go to college in Ireland instead of pursuing acting in LA. i do wish the FMC would’ve just “accepted” the whimsical element of this story more, but this was surprisingly so much more than just a romance novel as i originally thought. we see our FMC face some of her worst fears and gets closure that most don’t get.

🧸 parable of the sower by octavia e. butler - oooof, this by no reason was an easy read. it took me the better half of the month to finish since it just hits so heavy. but that precisely is the beauty of this book. we follow lauren olamina in a future not so distant from our own, as she’s displaced from her home and is force to fight for survival. it is a haunting coming of age tale but also a larger commentary on race, corporate greed, and climate change and what can happen if we let these inequalities take the best of us

that’s all for this month! hoping for a better reading month in october & my tbr coming soon🤭 taken in BOOKSTA by @truutoni

fall is officially here which means i can begin diving head first into my fall tbr ⭐️ let’s be real this is VERY ambitious and i realistically won’t get to these by the end of fall (never mind the end of the year) but this is a stack of books that ive had on my physical tbr for a while that im prioritizing. this week, i decorated for fall and it’s safe to say im in the fall spirit 🎃🎃 for some reason, time just seems to slow down as the months get colder and im very excited to unwind from a hectic summer tbh 😵‍💫

💌 q: do you have a planned out TBR or more of a mood reader? i feel like im a mix of both but i need to add some structure to my tbr since it feels neverending (esp my physical collection of books lol) by @truutoni

my weekend essentials ⚡️ currently reading two books— parable of the shower & one hundred years of solitude. i just got the libby loan for parable of the sower after MONTHS of waiting and it’s so so so good. my intention was to prioritize 100 years but i physically can’t put my kindle downnnnnn

💌 q: what’s your weekend looking like? i’ve got a busy saturday but my sunday is going to consist of yoga & a reading date 😇😇 by @truutoni

so we’re back to the og readsbytoni 🙈 i started this account at 23 year old searching for creativity the midst of post-grad monotony. what started as a fun outlet quickly became a space for connection and community. but when i started grad school, i was in a new environment and my priorities changed.

i wasn’t reading 10+ books a month anymore, but i was growing in other ways: finding new hobbies, building friendships, and developing personally and professionally.

now, three years later, i’m back to where 23 year old toni once was: craving that same sense of community & creativity that first brought me here. for a while i convinced myself i wasn’t a reader anymore, but looking back at my camera roll (and realizing how often i still create bookish content without posting it) reminded me that reading and books is central to who i am.

so not only am i excited to continue sharing my love for reading and books, but also sharing more parts of myself on here ❣️ taken in BOOKSTA by @truutoni

this is where you’ll find me for the remainder of the weekend 🧦☁️🧖🏾‍♀️ in my bed, wearing comfy pjs, and getting through my current read 🩶

about 55% of the way through atmosphere rn & yall why does it have me blushing and kicking my feet rn (if you know, you know) i’m genuinely not prepared for what is yet to come— i mean it’s TJR…. something is coming 😩

💌q: any fun weeekend plans or are we just enjoying some much needed rest & relaxation? by @truutoni

new month means a new set of intentions + tbr 🤎

september has always been one of my favorites month. time just feels to slow down & i always seem to fall back in love with all my hobbies at the start of the month 🥰

my intentions this month revolve around being more present & ensuring that im taking care of myself. i’ve been really trying to crack down on bad habits (i.e., going to bed late, snoozing my alarm, going out to eat) but ive slowly been improving on that 🪴

as for my tbr, i always get over ambitious (hence the hopefuls). i’m about 40% through atmosphere !!! but lately, i’ve been reading pretty slowly and doomscrolling doesn’t help my neverending tbr either.

here’s to september 🤎⭐️ by @truutoni
