Thank you to Miroslava Brooks for an insightful lecture, titled “Scattered Squares and Rectangles.”

Miroslava explored how conceptual ideas are tested through material, environmental, programmatic, and construction constraints and examined how academic research and teaching can operate as extensions of architectural practice — creating a reciprocal relationship in which ideas developed in the office inform the classroom, and questions generated through teaching return to practice.

Our sincere thanks to Miroslava for her presentation and for the engaging discussion that followed!

#ttuhcoa #ttuhcoalectureseries #ttuhcoaconfluence A woman stands a podium laughing and smiling at a crowd. by @ttuhcoa

Join us on Monday, October 12th, for the next event of our 2026-2027 lecture series titled
“Confluence.”

Confluence could be defined as the meeting of currents. In today’s complex environment, architecture emerges from the negotiation of a multitude of actions or flows at once: voices and communities, technologies and materials, ecologies and economies. The designer’s task is increasingly one of balancing and negotiating these diverse forces. We invite each speaker to trace the confluences within their own work, however they define them.

Next week’s lecture, titled “PRACTICE AS INQUIRY: ARCHITECTURE BETWEEN BUILDING, RESEARCH, AND TEACHING,” will be presented by MIROSLAVA BROOKS at 3:30 PM CT in the GALLERY on the ground floor of the HCOA.

Monday’s lecture and Q&A will also be streamed live via Zoom.

Additional information can be found by visiting the link in our bio.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at LHUCA’s First Friday Art Trail to view student work from the collaborative studio with Lubbock Habitat for Humanity.

The exhibition featured materials presented during the studio’s mid-term review, including a scheme of the build and the beginning stages of drawings being created to develop the design into a set of construction documents, as well as the preliminary specification book and project manual, and study models of materials and systems.

The project also honors Professor Emeritus John P. White and his lasting contributions to Lubbock Habitat for Humanity and the Lubbock community.

Thank you for helping us celebrate our students’ work and Professor White’s legacy!
