the joy is ours then, along with a little pain as well, of course.

Ultramarathon certified at the Haliburton Forest 50K and what a picture perfect race to take a stab at this new faucet of running. Equal parts technical and hilly. Spent a full month leading up to the race contemplating whether I should pursue a 50-miler 50k but decided that dipping my toes would be the better play to start.

From the start of the line to the end, I’ve never felt so prepared for every new challenge that came up and I can only thank my community at @undamovement and the Outdoor Projects training program with @mesa.endurance that built me up to this point.

Something about the grit and grime of the whole experience of ultramarathon running has me already itching for more, and these were thoughts I had event before I crossed the finish line. 7 hours in the forest, battling through sticky hands, a tasteful variety of technical tree roots and rocks, the dryness of salty sweat on your face, all while surviving to get from one aid station to the next. the laughter of @singlegearguy from the distance that served as an anchor during solo sections, and nearly getting lost along the path but being saved by @gnattiekong and @johnnytvng. and of course, the celebration at the end of the line with the Outdoor Projects team and @cassieedu who also battled in the forests to find me made the entire experience worth it all.

this sport has proved to be a slippery slope in so many ways but the test of your limits is what keeps me coming back for more

Today I met with Martin, a run leader at @runitback_to and a strong member of the Toronto running community. Like many runners, he discovered the sport while looking for something new to try. He quickly fell in love with it because of the community.

late to the celebration, but still riding the unreal high of the @towaterfront42k marathon weekend. to run my first marathon, and on home court, a choice I made knowing that I could lean on the support from others to get after it.

equal parts humbling and oddly enjoyable, I came into this race with my scopes set on an ambitious time as opposed to just looking to finish, and along the way I quickly learned that marathon racing is kinda like a confrontation, meeting a variety of selves along the way. it’s true what they say about the experience (hitting the wall, pain cave, etc), but words often fail to live up to the experience itself.

sneaky humidity and underprepared fuelling strategy for the conditions was my downfall, but was grateful to have @dy1antm to pull me out of the gutter, shift the mentality and ride it out with me til the finish line. support of home crowd was as good as it gets and seeing loved ones and familiar faces from this precious Toronto running community along the way brought a small reawakening each time.

crossed the line wanting to do it again almost instantly, despite the fact that minutes earlier, every logical part of my body was collapsing. but that’s just how the math of this sport works.

my 16-week training block was formative and each run never felt like a chore, hitting every workout. and although I fell short of my goal of somehow beating @harrystyles’ debut marathon time of 3:23, to finish strong at 3:35 is something I can soak up as a W and is proof that pride is earned through repetition and from showing up for yourself. could go on about describing the feeling of accomplishment could with words, but I’ll let these moments captured by some talented folks here do the talking.

still buzzing from this weekend and my full thoughts are still fragmented and loading up

it was an absolute pleasure to experience this 3-month journey with @undamovement and a bunch of the humans along the way who made the movements memorable. from the first kettle bell swing to the final hill of the race (including the little victory lap up the hill to bring our anchors home), I’m feeling gratified and humbled by the whole experience at @sulphurspringstrailrace
