I’m so excited to share the details of my upcoming show with @fruitisgudd at Cain Park!! We’ve been working really hard to make some magic happen for this installation and we can’t wait to open the space to everyone! ‘Through the Veil’ is only possible thanks to our collaboration with Michelle Barnicky Stachnik of Feinberg Gallery, Cleveland Heights’ Cain Park, and many cleveland creatives. The installation will highlight these collaborations, and feature a selection of works that reflect faith, loss, process, ritual and prayer. As you navigate the space, you’ll see yourself reflected throughout the installation as you’re reminded of your presence in the moment. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with several of the installation elements within the gallery as well as participate in supplemental programming in the following weeks (to be announced soon!!) Join us for the opening on Friday, August 29th or stop in before Sunday, October 5th to experience the magic that lies Through the Veil. taken in Cain Park Cleveland Heights, Ohio by @tumnusrex

We’re having a cookout next Thursday and y’all are invited!! Folks interested in doing cooperative work, folks doing the collaborative thing, kids, grandparents, neighbors—we’re gathering on August 27th! We’ll be breaking bread (with GF options of course), playing field games and we’ll share intentional time together as we workshop talking to strangers, pushing past our social anxieties, and having intentional questions for folks to meet each other 1:1. This is a potluck cookout—we’ll provide the proteins and toppings, you bring your favorite side. 🍉🍇🧃🍰🫜🍝🍪🥨🍟🫒 RSVP on our website in our bio or at clevelandowns.coop ✨ taken in Luke Easter Park by @tumnusrex

I’m so incredibly excited to announce the first iteration of a new event I’m calling Kaleido-step Dancing!!! This year I’ve had the privilege to dance with so many wonderful and beauty people in Cleveland at a ton of amazing venues and events. It’s been so inspiring to share space, make conversation and boogie down with this community!! With this event I want to combine 3 of my favorite things: Kaleidoscopes, dancing and friends! Taking place in the magnificent ballroom @thebrownhoist, Kaleido-step will feature a genre-hopping playlist and an immersive installation of lights and kaleidoscopic sculptures. This dance party is meant to celebrate our prismatic and diverse community and if I can reflect even a fraction of the joy and love I’ve experienced while dancing with you all then I know it’s going to be a phenomenal night! Come wearing bright colors, dazzling jewelry and flamboyant makeup- I promise there will be some amazing photo-ops! Huge shoutout to the illustrious @paodelrinmar for the fantastic flyer and assistance with planning the event! taken in The Brownhoist by @tumnusrex

Another web installation @humanheartstudios Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about networking, webs and constellations. Human HeART Studios is an amazing place that brings amazing people together. I’ve been so glad to get more involved there and share a common goal of revitalizing cleveland through art and community. The studio exists in an old industrial building- as artists, we make use of the space that already exists as best we can. We try to wrestle back control from an ineffectual government and profit motivated corporations. Given the opportunity, there are so many wonderful and creative and kind and motivated folks who will do amazing things… as it stands, there are still many buildings such as this one that remain desolate, abandoned and derelict. These buildings and houses remain empty and unused because it’s profitable to gate-keep property and real estate. What would it look like if people were given the opportunity and space to make homes and community in these places? Imagine the robust presence of 3rd spaces that could blossom all around us. Imagine what we could do if we revitalize, repair and reuse what already exists instead of always seeking the shiny new thing ready to buy, consume and discard. I will continue to build beautiful webs of connection with the wonderful people in my community. They are all stars and I will show the world the transformative power of our constellations. I believe we must demand further access to these spaces begging to be inhabited. The cobwebs indicate where love must make its way. -Tumnus Rex the Spiral Spider Sorcerer taken in Humanheart Studios by @tumnusrex

‘Weaving stories from stars’ What an honor to a part of @lxana_marxe_ ‘s Faeries! show at the Fairfax inn. To be featured alongside so many beautiful artists and their amazing art is all I can ask for! With this site specific installation, I used fishing line, hot glue, beads and aluminum shavings to construct a spider-fairy web. Like much of my work, this piece was very difficult to document! The materials I used are translucent, and thin, creating a very subtle web that spiraled out from the corner of one of the rooms. The piece fills the room but is largely comprised of the empty space between the webbing. it catches your eye but it’s difficult to see all at once. it allows you see the whole room but it does not permit your entry. The subtle nature of this installation encourages a deep and slow look. The longer you focus your attention into the work the more it reveals. I thought that this inviting/imposing, thin/expansive, shiny/translucent web fit perfectly with the ethereal power channeled by the Fae. Like many webs, this constellation of magic lines only existed for a couple days. It appeared…. and disappeared… and it will never be seen again. But there will be more webs, more constellations to come! Make sure to catch them in person because… you have to be there to truly experience the magic. by @tumnusrex
