It was surreal to be back @abcnews visiting the LA bureau and my many former colleagues who feel like family. I brought my new boss for a tour and to talk with the team about all the work we’re doing in the Secret Service Los Angeles field office - from our day-to-day focus on protection and investigations, to planning for major events including the World Cup and 2028 Olympics. We spent a week apart from the two newest members of our family. The little girls living with us spent Spring Break with relatives, and I wasn’t sure what it would be like when they came back home to us. But, I was wrong to worry. There was so much love in that reunion, and it reminded me that no matter how challenging this chapter is, it is SO worth it. My kids adore having these two bonus siblings, and we are grateful to get to pour love into these little ones and give them a safe, stable home until they can be reunified with their family.

Being on the red carpet for the Oscars every year used to be so much fun, but nothing tops our family’s annual sidewalk chalk “red carpet!” It was extra special having the two newest in our crew join in! The kids love picking out their fancy outfits, borrowing my jewelry and strutting their stuff!

What a joy it is to be this sweet THREE year old’s mama! The day we got the call about her and debated whether we were ready to bring home a newborn, I told Jory, “What if this is a member of our family?” It’s like a part of me knew somehow that this tiny baby we hadn’t met yet was supposed to join our crew. Thank goodness we said “yes” that day! We can’t imagine life without this sassy, hilarious girl. Happy birthday, Nicolina! by @tvmarci

Finally jumping on this 2016 trend. I spent much of that year on the road for ABC News: covering the 2016 election, going to Cuba twice including to cover Fidel Castro’s death, standing in the rain for multiple hurricanes (including one live shot that was so close to home that my family surprised me with a home-cooked dinner). I went to France, Germany and walked along the Great Wall of China, watched one of my best friends get married, enjoyed all the perks of living in NYC: great friends, great pizza and Broadway shows with my sister.

A very Merry Christmas from the Rands!

We have a 7-person household this holiday after 2 sweet little sisters recently came to stay with us. They’ve been in the foster system and we couldn’t bear the thought of them spending Christmas separated or in some terrible setting so the decision to welcome them in was an easy one.

And we post this to remind everyone that there are thousands of children in the foster system right now and you (YES YOU)! can help them. It seemed like an impossibility to us not too long ago, but really anyone can foster a child. All you need to do is take a few classes, have the space and have love to give.

And @tvmarci and I are always happy to answer any questions or help guide you through the process and the problems, because of course, just like parenting, fostering isn’t easy (especially with 5 kids under 6!)

This Christmas Eve, there are 2 more little ones asleep under our roof, dreaming about all the presents Santa will leave under this tree.
These sweet sisters arrived about a week ago, and when we found out we’d be fostering them, our community immediately sprung into action - giving us a crib, bed, high chair, car seat, clothes and gifts for them. It’s been really emotional to witness such incredible generosity and love, and a perspective-shifting experience to be part of this unfathomably challenging chapter in the girls’ lives.
Life with 5 kids under the age of 6 has been WILD, but we’re thankful we can provide these precious girls with a safe, loving home until they can be back with their family.
