Today marks the last day of PMOS Awareness Month, the first since the condition formerly known as PCOS was renamed polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome.

We’re grateful for every conversation this month has opened up, and for the chance for more people to learn about the realities of living with this condition. For our patients and our team, though, PMOS isn’t something we think about for just one month of the year. It’s part of the everyday care we provide, and part of so many of the stories that walk through our doors.

The new name was chosen to better reflect what the condition really is: a hormonal and metabolic condition that affects the whole body, not only the ovaries. We’re encouraged to see research, science, and the lived experiences of patients come together to create a clearer picture, because understanding your body is often the first step toward feeling more in control of your path forward.

Whether you’ve known about your diagnosis for years or are just starting to ask questions, we’re here to help you make sense of it. Wherever you are on your path, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Reach out anytime. 🤍

How do I like my eggs? FERTILIZED … (eventually) 🥚😏

Working in women’s health for over 7 years has completely changed the way I see fertility testing. It used to be something I thought was only important when you’re struggling to get pregnant and need to find out why. Now, it’s something I think everyone who knows they want a family someday should do.

I got mine tested for the first time in 2025 and then again this year (this time with my bf) so that we both feel confident about where we’re at and what our timeline looks like for starting a family.

We’re not trying for kids any time soon but it’s such important information to have so you can make the right choices for yourself. For me, based on my 2025 results I knew that if I wasn’t in a relationship with the person I saw myself having kids with by the time I was 30, I would freeze my eggs. That was a personal decision and depending on your results, what you choose to do might look different!

Fertility testing is only a big deal if you make it one. We NEED to have these conversations and be proactive about fertility, especially if having a family is something that’s really important to you (like it is to me!).

Our co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rhonda Zwingerman, spoke with @readthepeak about the rise of fertility tourism, and she was honest about the hard part. "These services are not inexpensive in Canada," she says. "There's a lot we probably can do better in terms of financial counselling and making sure people are aware of all of their options."

It's also why we built Twig the way we did: pricing you can see before you ever walk through the door, a dedicated care navigator who stays with you through the whole process, and a space designed to feel calm and welcoming rather than clinical.

If you are weighing care abroad, her advice is to do a lot of due diligence, because it can be hard to know what you're getting into. That includes thinking ahead to what happens to your eggs afterward, since they'll be stored in the country where you froze them.

"Wouldn't it be nice to be able to keep people here, if we could provide them what they needed at home? That would be my dream." It's ours, too.

What does a fertility care team actually look like?

We asked Dr. Emily Hogan of @flourishyourhealth, who works alongside our patients often enough to have a real answer. Her short version: it looks different for everyone, and it’s built from what you’re actually trying to work on and what might be getting in the way.

For most of her clients, that starts with a naturopathic doctor. From there it might include acupuncture, pelvic floor physiotherapy, a registered dietitian, or sessions with a therapist. It depends on your concerns and your goals, and it can shift as those change.

And as she puts it, it’s not an or situation. It’s an addition.

When you're ready to begin fertility treatment, waiting can be the hardest part. Being placed on a waitlist just to access funding, before treatment has even started, can feel especially discouraging.

The Ontario Fertility Program (OFP) exists to make treatment more accessible. But at some clinics, there's a wait simply to reach that funding, and that's one wait we don't think you should have to sit through.

If you're already on a list somewhere else, you're not stuck there. You can transfer your care to Twig, and our team will handle the paperwork behind the scenes, so it's one less thing for you to carry. From there, we help you move forward as soon as you're ready.

What a night. 🥂

Last Monday we collaborated @joinmondaygirl at @sohohouse Toronto for A Female Founders Evening, and the room was full of women building, dreaming, and being refreshingly honest about what that actually takes.

Our Co-founder and Chief Medical Director, Dr. Rhonda Zwingerman, joined an incredible panel: Nadia Ladak of @marlow, Laura McKay of @policymeinsurance, and moderator Istiana Bestari of @joinmondaygirl. Together they got honest about what it really takes to build with care at the centre: putting clients first, making health and financial security more accessible, and staying true to the ethos behind the work. As female founders, they also spoke to the realities of building in industries that haven't always been designed with women in mind.

Twig was founded by people who navigated years of fertility treatment themselves, so we know how much it matters to feel less alone in the hard parts, whether you're building a company or building a family.

“What is fertility testing?” is one of the first questions we hear, and often one of the ones that brings the most nerves. So let’s take the mystery out of it...

Testing isn’t a pass or fail. It’s simply how we build a clear picture of where things stand, so that any plan we make together is based on your body and not guesswork.

For people with eggs, it usually combines imaging to look at the uterus and ovaries with bloodwork to understand your ovarian reserve, which offers insight into your egg supply. For people with sperm, a semen analysis looks at both quality and quantity. If there’s a partner in the picture, we’ll often test both of you. And however you’re building your family, we’ll tailor testing to your path.
