Back in July, we had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Shorebreak Classic @shorebreakclassic and introduce HOPENA Foundation to a community that shares so much love for the ocean and our keiki 🌊

A special mahalo nui loa to the Shorebreak Classic and Twin Islands ‘Ohana @twinislands for making space for us, welcoming us with open arms, and allowing us to share Hopena’s story.

And to the incredible local businesses who donated goodies for our game and helped make the day even more meaningful, @hawaiicandyfactory , @crack_seed_store , @alohacollection ,and @projectreefsuncare , mahalo for supporting our mission and helping us give back to our keiki ❤️

Mahalo piha to @mahinahoku.choy for joining us and for capturing all of these amazing moments! 🫶🏽

We are so grateful for every person who showed up, participated, and helped! This was such a memorable experience for our HOPENA Foundation team!

Every so often our Kailua community receives tragic news of losing one of our own. Recently we lost 4 friends most of us grew up with and knew very well. This year we will honor the memory of these 4 Kailua legends on the front of our contest tee with the other braddas…AlohA

Days like today we’ve taken for granted for too long. (Pic1). What Hawaii has experienced in the last month was truly unbelievable. (Pic2) We’ve grown up here along with so many other local business owners across all islands and checked in with the ones we know. “Never like this”, was in every conversation. If you’d like to support the people who lost the most, especially families up on the North Shore, @lahuifoundation is an incredible group doing incredible things🙌🏻

This photo best defines our Brand. Honor the loss of Mike’s Twin brother Pete, represent his birthplace Kailua, and draw up a logo of the Twin Islands where he grew up surfing. Mahalo for supporting us for nearly 20 years! taken in Lanikai Beach by @twinislands

It took us a minute to think up an unofficial official Slogan! “Home is Where our logo is”
Nothing gives us more gratitude than getting photos of people repping our decal on their car, boat, trailer, house, plane, or wherever…reminding them of where they grew up, once lived, or fell fond of. Tell us where your new sticker is going and we’ll save you one,

🌊 Shorebreak Classic is back 🌊

🏄🏽🏄🏽‍♀️🏄‍♂️🏄🏽🏄🏽‍♀️🏄‍♂️🏄🏽🏄🏽‍♀️🏄‍♂️🏄🏽

Loved seeing all my friends with their babies and the pure stoke on everyone’s face. @letsgetbizikal @sarahm808 @saychunadotcom @chloepestana @ctanaks @kilinahenahe
@mama.kawai @elijahskymusic

BUT the best stoke was seeing Waiwaiʻs shocked and exhilarated face when his name was called when he took the win 🥇 for the super groms division. (Peep the 2nd to last slide)

I cried, Mac got “sand” in his eyes, then Kamauliola admitted to me as he was the last in the water as he saw the crowd gather for awards, he told his cousin “the best birthday gift would be if one of my brothers win today”😭🥹

It was his 15th birthday on the same day as the contest and he spent it with all the littlest people in his life (sorry son but we made up for it the next day at Sandy’s)

Another friend told us that Waiwai was in the judges booth earlier and asked him “Uncle I want that board, how do I get it?” Not even knowing if Waiwai was in the competition, he told him “You gotta win that board it’s only for the winners”

After that moment, I am pretty sure was when he walked straight up to me and said “Mom there’s a perfect board over there for me, can I have it, you gotta come see it”

It was the board he won!

Mahalo nui @twinislandsco @kailuapilot @bailyymiller for your tireless efforts to bring this back for all our keiki of Kailua. by @twinislands

Many of our Ohana know that Mike Miller founded Twin Islands in honor of his late twin brother Pete pictured here, however nobody really knows how our company was funded from the start. After Pete tragically lost his life in an airplane crash over Maui on March 8th of 2006, he had $13,000. in his Savings account.. Exactly 3 years to the day on March 8th of 2009, Mike launched our company with a new Trademarked logo, 5 different T-shirt designs, and stickers and hats, all available for purchase on a brand new website costing Mike a total of 13K. From the very beginning, Pete literally inspired Mike with the idea, and paid for his idea to help bring it to life. Twin Islands is still going strong today and the memory of Pete will live on forever in Kailua, Mahalo! taken in Lanikai Beach,Kailua by @twinislands
