When @cyclisthelen bought me a compass and a map for Christmas, I thought the practical presents had gone a bit too far… 🧭

Turns out she knew exactly what she was doing. 🤦‍♀️🙄❤️

Today I did the @yorkietalkiesoutdoors Hill Skills & Navigation Course and had a brilliant day learning how to properly read a map, use a compass, and take a bearing without looking like I’m trying to contact NASA. We all had to lead a section of the walk with very little help… which seemed like a bold move by our super instructor, but somehow nobody ended up wandering off across Yorkshire.

And I discovered yet another beautiful part of Yorkshire I hadn’t seen before. 🥾❤️ by @twinksgx

Another year has absolutely flown by ✨ and looking back through the yearly photo montage just makes us smile — so much time spent outdoors with 🐶 and up in the mountains 🏔️, exactly where we’re happiest ❤️.

This year has been full of adventures, including our very first big road trip in the van with Connie 🚐🐶, and it’s also brought a couple of incredibly special new arrivals 👶👶

Happy 80th Birthday, Dad!

They say wisdom comes with age, but in your case, it comes from a shed full of tools and a fantastic ability to fix almost anything.

You’ve been my go-to source for everything practical over the years, long before Google existed. Whether it was a leaky tap, a wobbly fence, or a mysterious rattling noise in the car, the answer was always the same: “Ask Dad.”

Thank you for always knowing what to do (or convincing us you did). Here’s to 80 years of problem-solving, DIY accomplishments, and teaching me how to reverse a trailer amidst all the other practical skills you’ve shared.

OMM Lite Day 2 ✅

1st of June… but bloody hell it was cold.
Rain (obviously), wind that made it feel like -4°C on the tops — but at least visibility was better today. 😳🥶

Lesson learnt. Once your feet are soaked, it’s actually kind of freeing — just run straight through the streams, mud, and bogs. No point fighting it.
Also: I now know what dibbing is. 😅

Tough, but unforgettable.

Grasmere Running Festival. Rain. Wind. More rain. Occasional sideways rain. Visibility was somewhere between “none” and “is that a sheep or Helen?” Gales at the tops tried to blow us into next week, and we found ourselves wading across streams that may or may not have been footpaths at some point.

Threw in a bit of jogging (mostly to escape hypothermia), but made it back before the cutoff. Everyone’s soggy but safe.

@georgiajackson.art is why I am still doing triathlons; she was the reason I did my first 'tryout' five years ago and later agreed to coach me through some significant events (and still is!!). 😍

It's amazing that she is co-hosting this very special retreat on the shores of Loch Rannoch, Pitlochry, with @travelmattersuk - four nights from 28 September this year, combining it with another passion of hers: art! (#endlesstalent)

So anyone who knows me will know I won't be anywhere near this as it will be a bit fresh, but that does not mean I don't see and understand the benefits of wild swimming provides, and if nothing else, the location will be amazing! #scotland
