21 years. 🤍

Today Justin and I celebrate 21 years of marriage, which has me looking back at these photos and thinking about how much of my life actually began in this season.

What I didn’t know then was that planning our wedding would also introduce me to something else I would eventually fall in love with—the wedding industry.

I loved all of it. The details, the planning, the beauty, the feeling of getting ready for this one incredibly meaningful day. And somewhere in that process, I realized how much I loved wedding hair and makeup.

I certainly wasn’t standing there on our wedding day thinking, Someday I’m going to own a bridal beauty company.

But looking back 21 years later, I can see the beginning of something I couldn’t see at the time.

That bride had no idea how many wedding mornings she’d eventually get to be part of. How many women would sit in her chair. How many artists she’d have the privilege of leading. Or that this little corner of the wedding world would become such a meaningful part of her life.

And through every version of me along the way, there’s been Justin.

21 years of marriage, family, growing up together, building a life—and a whole lot of life we never could have imagined when these photos were taken.

TWIRLY TRUTH 🤍

One of the most common pieces of bridal hair advice is: “Don’t wash your hair before your wedding.”

But where did that advice come from?

While there’s no single documented origin, it likely dates back to a time when women washed and set their hair much less frequently. Hairstyles were designed to last for days, and the texture created by setting lotions, teasing, and hairspray helped maintain the style.

Today’s bridal hairstyling is different.

Modern products allow us to create the grip, texture, and hold we need without relying on oil, heavy product buildup, or several days of unwashed hair.

What most bridal hairstylists actually want is clean, completely dry hair that’s been prepped according to their instructions.

Every stylist has their own preferences, so always follow the prep guide your beauty team provides. But if you’ve been holding onto the idea that “dirtier is better,” it may be time to let that myth go.

As much as I love a wedding day, there’s something so special about getting to document multiple days for my couples

Not only do I get to know them and their relationship on a deeper level, but I also get to know the people who shaped them… the family and friends who helped them become who they are today ✨
