A Flicker in the Dark by @stacyvwillingham
★★★¾☆ (3.75)

This one had an intriguing mystery that kept me suspicious of almost everyone. I really enjoyed watching my theories shift as more pieces started coming together, and I thought the final reveals tied everything together nicely.

It did take me a while to become fully invested in the story. The suspense came in waves for me, with certain moments pulling me right in while other stretches didn’t hold me quite as strongly. Once everything started falling into place, though, I enjoyed seeing how the different pieces connected.

Overall, a solid psychological thriller with a satisfying payoff that kept me questioning who I could actually trust.

Have you read A Flicker in the Dark? Who did you suspect while reading? 👀

Buried in the Woods Below by @danielgmillerauthor
★★★½ (3.5)

This one had all the ingredients for a creepy, atmospheric thriller: an isolated island, threatening notes, strange things happening at night, and a mystery I genuinely couldn’t figure out.

My biggest issue was the tension. It would start building and then disappear before I could really feel it, which made the story feel slower than I wanted. But that final stretch completely changed the energy. It was immersive and fast-paced, and while I had briefly considered part of the reveal earlier on, it still managed to surprise me in a way.

I just wish that same level of intensity had been present throughout more of the book.

Do you prefer a thriller that keeps you guessing until the end, or do you like figuring out the twist along the way?

The Storm by @ladyhawkins
★★★½ (3.5)

This one took a little while to fully pull me in. The tension came and went, and with some seriously LONG chapters, I was very glad I chose the audiobook for this one.

The final stretch was easily the strongest part for me. Once the pieces started falling into place, I became much more invested, and I really enjoyed how the past and present connected and ultimately came full circle.

Overall, The Storm was a good atmospheric mystery with an intriguing premise and a satisfying ending. I just needed more consistent tension throughout to push it into a higher rating.

Have you read The Storm? Are long chapters a dealbreaker for you, or do you not even notice them? 👀

Dissection of a Murder by @jomurraywrites
★★★★ 4 stars

A husband and wife on opposite sides of the same murder trial had me intrigued immediately. This one was a little slower at times, but I stayed invested in seeing how everything would come together.

The courtroom scenes were some of my favorite parts, and the final stretch completely won me over. I did figure out part of the mystery before the reveal, but the satisfaction came from watching all the pieces click into place. The calculated psychological choices made the ending work for me even more.

I also loved the glimpses into the darker side of the story and honestly wish we had gotten even more of that.

Do you prefer a thriller that completely shocks you, or one where figuring out the pieces is just as satisfying?

August was apparently my month of audiobooks 🎧📚

Life got BUSY this month, and sitting down with a physical book just wasn’t happening 😭 so audiobooks basically carried my entire reading life through August. And honestly? I’m not mad about it 😂

I still got to squeeze in some thrillers while working, driving, and doing life…even if my physical TBR was staring at me the entire time👀

Here’s everything I listened to/read this month + how I rated them! ⭐️

What was your favorite read of August? 👇🏽

I FINALLY FOUND MY FIRST 5-STAR READ IN MONTHS! 🖤

Her Silence by @stashmanauthor was everything I’ve been wanting from a thriller: dark, addictive, psychological, multiple POVs that actually added to the story, clearly labeled timelines, and enough clues to keep me theorizing the entire time.

Every time I thought I knew where this was going, this book basically said “well… actually.” 😂 I literally had to reread one page TWICE because I could not believe what I had just read.

And as a healthcare worker, I always appreciate when the medical details feel accurate instead of pulling me out of the story. 👏🏼

My first S.T. Ashman and DEFINITELY not my last.

QOTD: What was your last 5-star thriller? 👀

Listen for the lie by @amytintera

★★★ ¾ (3.75)

Apparently I’m officially in my audiobook era. 😂

Lucy’s dark humor and completely unhinged inner thoughts were easily my favorite part, and the true-crime podcast format worked SO well on audio.

I was invested, entertained, and kept listening… I just wanted the final payoff to hit a little harder.

Still, such a fun listen. 🎧

Freida Friday 🔑💜

Millie and Enzo finally getting married… but of course nothing in Millie’s life can ever be simple. 😂

The Housemaid’s Wedding felt less like a full installment and more like a bonus chapter for those of us who already love these characters. It was short, chaotic, and very Millie, and I loved getting this little glimpse into her and Enzo’s life together.

Was it necessary to the series? Not really. Did I still have fun reading it? Absolutely.

If you’ve read the Housemaid series, did you read this one too or skip the novella? 👀

I wasn’t trying to solve this one. I was just listening, following the story, and letting @marykubica take me wherever she wanted to go.

The tension in She’s Not Sorry never felt loud or constant. It was just… there. Quietly sitting in the background until I hit one twist that made me literally pause the audiobook and go, “WAIT, WHAT?” 😂 And yes, I immediately started explaining it to my friends even though none of them were reading the book.

The psychological storyline completely stole the show for me. I loved the way it all came together, but I wish the ending had trusted that mystery enough to stand on its own. The secondary storyline just didn’t have the same impact for me.

★★★½☆ (3.5)

Summer wrap-up 📚☀️

Thirteen thrillers later, one thing became really clear: the books I remember most aren’t always the ones with the biggest twists.

They’re the ones that pull me into a character’s mind, keep me questioning every decision, and make me think, “Just one more chapter…” until it’s way past my bedtime.

This summer gave me unreliable narrators, survival stories, family secrets, psychological spirals, and a few books I still can’t stop thinking about.

Swipe through to see my summer highlights, favorite reading experiences, and the stats behind the last two months.

✨ Have we read any of the same books?

The Housemaid’s Secret by @fmcfaddenauthor ★★★★☆

Some books make you question every character.

This one made me question everything.

I spent the entire book trying to figure out what was happening, completely immersed in Millie’s story. Every chapter felt like another piece of the puzzle, but I wasn’t trying to solve it. I was simply along for the ride. Then the ending hit, and suddenly I wanted to go back and look at everything through a different lens.

The apartment, the locked door, the secrets, and the constant tension pulled me in from beginning to end. If you loved The Housemaid, this sequel absolutely keeps the suspense going.

Have you read The Housemaid’s Secret yet? What did you think? 📚✨
