Wow, you guys! This @countrylivingfair has been a whirlwind of happiness! I always hang my hopes on my work- will folks like what I dreamed up hanging out in my studio playing with beads?? Today I got the answer as I was honored to see many lovely, incredibly kind folks interact with my work by trying on pieces, helping friends pick out earrings, and choosing presents for people they love. AND to add to all that goodness , I got to see a whole bunch of amazing people I haven’t seen in ages! @hydrangeahome Dawn and Fred, it’s never quite enough time with you guys! @tillysnest Melissa, I loved going grey with you and getting catch up a bit - and meet your beautiful girl⭐️ @kaykmorrison you and Rene made my day and I wish I had more time so I could crash your party and paint and shop with you two!! Twist Style Booth in Barn 29 @countrylivingfair Swipe to see how we started! It’s a labor of love that starts many months out with designing and hand-crafting every. single. piece. Then the tagging and packing, the long long drive upstate, the hauling of heavy things so we can prettily display the tiny little things… and POOF! It’s a proper shop that just happens to be hanging out in barn this weekend. I’d love if you can make it to see this wonderful event in person.

I literally agonize over this part because I want it to be a perfect expression of my work. I might be a tad uptight during this stage. 😬

The placement of every table is so important - for light, for the flow of people coming through, and for us to have a place to hide away all the messy bits.

Piles on piles on piles. And only I know where anything is.

Could not do this part without my husband doing the lifting - I’ve tossed out my back a few times at this stage right here and that is NO way to start a show. Thank goodness for all the helpers in this endeavor! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ taken in Dutchess County Fairgrounds by @twiststyle

The new season has me thinking about the last season as I haven’t shared very much lately.

The summer was spent with a bit of travel and a bit of unexpected hospital drama (for a family member).

We had visits with our littlest ones and visits from a menagerie of monarchs who found our milkweed garden and told all their friends. In between swimming and tracking the chrysalis and tending the flowers, we took time to just sit quietly.

Make no mistake, my hands are always at work! But I did the work quietly in the backyard and on the deck surrounded by butterflies and flowers and I honestly believe that when you put on one of my necklaces, you will feel that.

hope these little portals will transport you to a quiet moment, and that you’ll remember that two hands created this piece that you now wear. And I hope that maybe somehow, in some way, it will bring you a little bit of the peace and joy I brought to making it.

The Country Living Fair @countrylivingfair will be held October 2, 3, 4 at the Duchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York. The event will feature hundreds of artisans and antique dealers, as well as stylists and designers and presenters of all sorts.

As a long time fan of Country Living Magazine, and as someone whose baby business grew up thanks to the support of @countrylivingmag I could not be more thrilled to be back at the fair. Let the magic begin!✨

My shoddy reel cannot really capture the beautiful, imaginative, inspired works that came from the women in my class last week, but please have a wee look at what they created with mere scraps of ribbon, antique buckles, old French papers and lace, shards of pottery from the river, vintage buttons and chandelier drops, handprinted wallpaper, many pretty beads, and natural stones. I had the honor of being invited by three creative geniuses to join them in the south of France and teach a week long retreat, guiding a group of creatives through my textile jewelry making process. Little did I know how much this adventure would grab my heart! Thank you so much for hosting me @hootenannieart @sepiaandglitter @dayledoroshow !

Wonderful friends - new and old - dug in the river for porcelain shards (and made pendants out of them!), sipped rosé and white port, wandered the markets looking for treasures and treats, and used our hands, our hearts, and our minds to create incredibly unique pieces of textile jewelry. I am amazed at how quickly these ladies learned a very tricky skill, and even more blown away by their beautiful creations and open hearts.

Bonus!! Getting to visit 2 local artist’s studios I never dreamed I’d have the chance to see was the icing on the cake! @alinecauvin and @sharonpaynebolton both welcomed us into their homes and their studios and made all us traveling artists feel so welcome. Now I must make it to Idaho to take a class with Sharon stateside!

True generosity is a beautiful gift & this week @twiststyle shared the heart of how she creates her fabulous crochet jewelry.

The supplies and 25 years of wisdom was flowing freely all week. ✨If you get a chance to take a class with @twiststyle , jump full in. She is a magical human, a fabulous teacher & an inspiring artist.✨

This year I wanted to be student as well as a teacher, and the past 11 days have been refilling my creative well. The fun part will be taking some of the techniques Maryellen taught and seeing how they apply to my own art work. Felt invigorating yo leave my comfort zone & learn from a master.

And look how much jewelry I made! A special thanks to @hootenannieart @dayledoroshow and at @sepiaandglitter for organizing this week & the treasure hunting adventures.

We danced, we shared, we created, we were siiiiilllllly and we all were a family for one beautiful week in an artisan town in glorious France.

I’m really excited to share all of the beautiful parts of the last week of making art in the south of France with an amazing group of folks, but first I’d like to share this magical location where we made lasting friendships, dug bits of ancient pottery out of the river, and where we ate, drank and played ( so much dancing😂) for the week. Sharing all my jewelry making secrets this week! Yesterday I had a bit of a rest day - wandering Toulouse and eating glacé, found a bead store and a fabric shop and a book fair, walked about a million steps. Today I meet up with the folks from the collective and we head to the tiny village which will be our home for the week. Only 200 people live there! Would you like to join me next time?? I’ve posted peeks of this Sea Queen crown I made for @sepiaandglitter before, but I am still so super in love with it that I wanted to share a few more of the details!

The handcrafted crown was created for Jane and her handfasting wedding ceremony in Scotland. I’ve posted pictures of that lovely day in a previous post but this crown means so much to me that I wanted it to have its own square!

Initially, we planned to design jewelry to go with Jane’s antique lace wedding ensemble, but serendipity led us to a headpiece instead! All of the shells were already in my collection. Nothing was purchased outside of the studio to make this piece and every bit of it was a collaboration to include the brides affinity for the sea and antique lace, and a nod to classic style with the pearls.

Each bead was hand sewn to the lace crown and each shell tells a story. We even recreated Jane’s wedding ring stone, a London blue topaz, for the blue focal points on the main shell by using golden mounts and dyed resin glass.

What an absolute honor to be a part of this most memorable event in such a way. Does anyone else need a mermaid/siren/sea queen head dress???? I’m ready if you are!
