Happy International Women’s Day! YOU ALL WALKED HAND IN HAND INTO THE ATLANTIC IN MARCH! The energy on the beach was electric and joyous! Women joining together can do anything!  What a massive splash! 1,600+ dippers and THOUSANDS of folks on the beach made the 6th Annual Women’s Wave the biggest one yet. Maine is on the map as host of the Largest and Coldest International Women’s Day Celebration in the Nation!  Your bravery, support, kindness, laughter, JOY, STRENGTH, POWER and absolute badassery is rippling out to connect to women worldwide! Screams of laughter echoed across the harbor! Dancing spread across the tideline. Everyone’s smiling, glittering faces glowed across town! This is how we resist with JOY, This is how we lead with community and support. This is how we DO HARD THINGS TOGETHER!  Thank you all for your kindness, respect for the schedule, for Willard Beach and neighbors. Thank you all for bringing your best selves and courageous hearts. THAT. WAS. AWESOME!!! Y’all are absolutely epic! OVER 1600 DIPPERS and THOUSANDS on the beach made the 6th Annual Women’s Wave the biggest one yet!! We showed up together! We joined hands and hearts and voices and walked in UNISON into the icy Atlantic, making a bold statement about the STRENGTH AND POWER OF WOMEN! Today you all made a massive wave- of JOY! Of Strength! Power! Connection! And Support! Today filled us up, and will live in our hearts and memories all year round. Whenever you need to remember how beautiful and powerful you are just think back to THIS MOMENT! We can do hard things, and we do them together! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! Although mammals and birds are widely regarded as the smartest creatures on earth, it has lately become clear that a very distant branch of the tree of life has also sprouted higher intelligence: the cephalopods, consisting of the squid, the cuttlefish, and above all the octopus. In captivity, octopuses have been known to identify individual human keepers, raid neighboring tanks for food, turn off lightbulbs by spouting jets of water, plug drains, and make daring escapes. How is it that a creature with such gifts evolved through an evolutionary lineage so radically distant from our own? What does it mean that evolution built minds not once but at least twice? The octopus is the closest we will come to meeting an intelligent alien. What can we learn from the encounter? We've graduated 🎓 over 500 baddies from our Couch 2 Coldwater program since we started in 2022! We're pumped for another COLDWATER SEASON and to get prepped for the WOMEN'S WAVE (Is your calendar marked? March 5-7?) Our first COUCH 2 COLDWATER session starts next week! Hear from a C2C alum below: ❝Two years ago, I watched a woman arrive at Kettle Cove, fold her robe neatly on a rock, and slip into the cold water unfazed. She swam back and forth across the cove as if it were the Mediterranean. I wanted to be that woman, but I was watching from the shore, afraid. Couch 2 Coldwater was a perfect introduction to cold water swimming in Maine. With Caitlin’s expert instruction and focus on individual comfort as well as safety, I grew in confidence over the three weeks. I was able to learn from the others in my group about what gear I might need, how to acquire it, and how best to organize it. I felt empowered to get in the water at my own pace. I always felt safe when I was with Two Maine Mermaids. Best of all, my group is still dipping together, and we have grown and expanded and shifted so I know I am truly part of a network. These women are all fearless, fascinating people with their own reasons for coming to the water. I have experienced the water in so many ways that I would never have been brave enough to do alone: I’ve dipped at sunrises and sunsets, in the dark, in the wind and cold. My group of dippers has celebrated life milestones with me and provided me with true support. I feel I have truly experienced the beauty of Maine water. I couldn’t be more grateful for this program.
